Default AMD Bulldozer 4Ghz (ES) vs Intel Core i7-990X

The guy got hands on a 8 Core Bulldozer (Engineering Sample) most likely the “FX-8130″ which he has been experimenting with over and over again overclocked to 4Ghz along with Intel’s own Gem “Core i7 990X” which was also overclocked to 4Ghz for a fair comparison for both OctaCore processors.

Motherboards used included Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 (Detailed here) for the Bulldozer Processor while the Core i7 990X was equipped on the Gigabyte X58A-OC Motherboard. Since both Boards feature SLI Support, The guy used Multiple GTX 580 variants for SLI Configuration (16+16 PCI-E lines). Following are the complete test setup details:

    • AMD Bulldozer FX Engineering Sample @ 4 GHz / Intel Core i7-990 Extreme @ 4 GHz
    • Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 / Gigabyte X58A-OC
    • various models, but mainly 2GB sticks Kingston DDR3-2000 MHz
    • SLI Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 (16+16 PCI-E lines)
    • OCZ Revodrive SSD
    • Enermax 1250W
    • Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Beta drivers 275.36 for Nvidia graphics cards

Single threaded???? SuperPi and wPrime are dinosaurs. Guys this could be all hogwash.. Like duff said. Chip hasn't been released and if anyone got an engineering sample, they would be close to AMD and would not post benchies.

ive been using superpi for years. it's, imo, the best way to gauge single threaded performance. wprime is for scaling.

If this is real, the $300+ 8core Bulldozer is almost as fast as the $1000 990X but lets not forget that Intel has it's own 8 core to release, yes it will be expensive but it will also be very fast.

    ya minutes maybe

also, this is a GAMING BENCHMARK. the 990X will KILL BD in any CPU intensive stuff. this crap is so close because it's GPU bound.

I also agree with logan. if the bulldozer does well in gaming this does not mean that it will be as good when it comes to heavy duty CPU processing.
