Default My HP Pavilion p6310y MOBO needs replaced, help!

I have a HP Pavilion p6310y Desktop where the SATA controller went out. Found out the hard way by replacing almost all the hardware (HD, DVD, SATA Cables). I'm pretty sure the SATA controller is bad considering the BIOS doesnt even register anything plugged into 3 of the 4 slots on the board. I want to upgrade so I don't get the same problem again as I only had this PC for 14 months

    Here is my specs currently:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...ct=4120042#N35

    and I've got three questions
1). Will this replacement/upgrade board fit and work properly?
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131654

2)If the replacement board does work do i need to upgrade my PS (currently have 300W)?

3)If replacement board above wont work which one will? Trying not to spend more than $150

I would greatly appreciate any help you all can give

why didn't you contact HP for a RMA?
The computer must have the warranty longer than 12 months, yes you can replace the mobo but you may have to invest another copy of Windows. Because the disc came with the computer had been coded to recognize HP boards only.

    Welcome to Pure OC

I have to agree with Deton, before spending any money check and see if your system is still under warranty, if it is, contact their support dept explain your problem and ask for a replacement. If you have a problem with support let me know, I know someone that should be able to help you, but make sure you save your emails from support, you will also need your original receipt.

Using the first link you listed click on Check Warranty Status on the left side. Enter your serial number and check if the PC is still in warranty or not.

    Welcome to the forum.

Why not use a Pci or Pcie SATA expansion card so the board does not have to be replaced?
Should work fine with a couple adjustments within the bios as far as boot drives.

You can still use the key on another mobo you just need to extract it from the registry, use MagicJellyBean its free and will get the key. Then just download a copy of windows (same Version) and install with the key you retrieved and your good to go.

Craig, I have a Gigabyte 790FXA.UD4 I will ship ypu for $50. It will work great with you hardware. If your interested we have to see if it fits in your case. It's a better board than the Asus MA488 you listed and less than half the price.

The ASUS Board would have had a lot of normal bios setting locked as it was a OEM board.
The board Jim is offering you if it fits the case will have a far better selection for tweaking the bios!

Not to mention I payed $140 for it when it came out and did not use it very long. I bet it has 20 hours on it. He will not be really able to overclock it with that crappy 300W PSU but that is why I offered it. He can get a better PSU

DrDeath, any chance you have a link for the details on that motherboard. I've done a search on gigabyte's website and there is a model with a similar number but it isnt the same as your post. Thanks.

Default Re: My HP Pavilion p6310y MOBO needs replaced, help!

That's a great board but my case and everything is for form factor MicroATX. I went to gigabyte and found a couple that look like they might work with my specs.

Here is the link for board option 1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128458
Here is the link for board option 2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128490
Here is the link for my specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...t=4120042#N173

Can anyone tell me if this will work?

    Thanks!
