Default Please help I broke my AMD 620 CPU

    Hello everyone:

I did a stupid thing… my heat sink on my CPU was completely caked with dust & cat hair and it was not coming out with compressed air or a vacuum. So I tried to take the heat sink off and my CPU came out with it. I then pried the heat sink off and in the process I dropped the CPU breaking some pins. Now it does not work (what a surprise). Now the CPU has been discontinued, am I up the creek?

    I have a Pegatron M2N78-LA mother board, with a AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor. I unable to do a bios upgrade, what CPU can I replace this with?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

I think you get any AM3 AMD CPU to work.

When I go to HP's website and search for the motherboard specs they list 4 different versions and non of the confs match what I have.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01635734&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
    T
his one looks like my mother board but it does not list my CPU the AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor. However I see revision 3.02 printed on the Mother Board, so I think that the like below is the board I have.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01742903&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en#N33
This list many different supported CPUs including the one I broke, however it says it came with DDR3 RAM but I think I have DDR2.

    Please help

    Thanks

Are the pins broken or bent? Take a photo showing the pins and post it, if there just bent you may be able to fix, let me know and I'll tell you how.

    Thanks

Do you know for which socket its is?? Is it a AM2 or AM3 socket??
Like DrDeath posted those CPU's will work. Just double check your MB for socket type.

Socket does not have to do with it if the bios does not support the chips.

How big is your case. I have a 790FX chipset motherboard for ya cheap. All you need is a CPU and how big is your PSU?

If you change MB you will need to install a fresh OS. If you want to keep everything how you had it, your best option is to find a replacement CPU and be done.

Its your call. If you are on a budget then look on ebay as CPU will come up now and then.
If you have the funds to get a new MB and CPU you have allot more options at that piont. (of course this is also if your other components are compatible also)
