Default Give up Phenom II x4 970 for a 955+better board?

Hey guys, I need some advice. I'll be getting a 970 as a gift, which is perfect since I've saved up enough money to upgrade my mobo. Thing is, I only have enough to get something like a Gigabyte 990fxa ud3 or an asrock extreme4 990fx. But i was wondering, what if I sold the 970, got the 955 instead and used the extra cash to get a better motherboard like a Gigabyte 990fxa ud5 or the fatality professional 990fx? Would that be a better move? Do you think I could take the 955 up to 4+ Ghz and make it last 24/7? Or should I just go with the original plan of the 970 and the relatively cheaper boards?

The other reason why I was thinking of getting the 955 and going for the more expensive motherboard is that I'll probably be replacing the 955 with the new bulldozers eventually(since I'm not too impressed with the first gen BDs). At least this way, I'll already have a solid motherboard to begin with. But that's still a far shot. Who knows, AMD just might change the socket type, making the am3+ boards useless.

Any help would be much appreciated!

so the ud3 or the extreme4 will be able to overclock just as well as the ud5 and fatality? Like, take the 970 past 4 ghz?

to add to that...wouldn't there be less of a diff between the 955 and the 970? Wouldn't a simple overclock easily make up for the diff? Wouldn't a more durable board be better in the long run?

I just read that there may be a potential fix for the bulldozer problem, through a fix with the registry. If that's the case, looks like it was a good call to stick with AMD(was thinking of going intel for a bit) Hope that's true!

Pol88, the UD5 has a better power phase FYI than the UD3 resulting in better overclocking.....

I would reommend the AsRock Extreme 4. Gigabyates boards do not have LLC and the ASrock has the new UEFI bios which you would enjoy better.

so the asrock extreme4 over the gigabyte UD5? would the asrock be able to overclock just as well. I think it has an 8+2 power phase, but what about the rest of the components?

BTW, can someone tell me why asrock boards seem to be so cheap for what they offer? Is there some catch? Not that I mind...if they're good AND cheap, I's there!
