Default AMD launches the 4.2GHz quad-core

First ever desktop processor that ships with a base clock speed above 4GHz

AMD has this week launched its first ever desktop processor that ships with a base clock speed above 4GHz. The Bulldozer FX-4170 runs at 4.2GHz in fact, and boosts that to 4.3GHz when Turbo is used.

The FX-4170 is the first of two new 32nm desktop processors AMD has unveiled. The second is the FX-6200, which increases the core count to 6, but lowers the base clock speed to 3.8GHz. However, it can achieve 4.1GHz with Turbo and should outperform the 4170 on anything that takes advantage of those additional two cores.

Default Re: AMD launches the 4.2GHz quad-core

The chip is the same as previous crap with a higher core speed. If the hit 4.2GHz with the same voltage, if not the stock cooler will not be enough.
