Default Need help with new HTPC

I have a Crosshair V Formula ROG M/B, and I just bought a new FX-6100 going into a new HTPC to replace my dead other one. I have a triad of 1333 DDR3 in stock, and Fry's Electronics has 2X8 16GB DDR3 1600 on sale for $112.99.

I have spent $127 on a new case (my old case was micro-ATX only and the M/B will not fit it), and the FX-6100 was $149.99 so the less I spend on additional Hardware, the better.

So, will the Crosshair V Formula ROG M/B accept three 2GB memory sticks as 6GB? If so, I do not need the 1600 memory or 16GBs. Thank you.

It's designed to run with two or four sticks of RAM. It may run with just three in there, but you will lose the dual channel memory capabilities of the board. Just run two 2GB sticks until you can find a match (just one more just like the others) for the third one. That way you preserve the dual channel performance that's designed into the platform.
Once you find the fourth stick, you'll have 8GB in there and that's plenty.

I do not believe you lose dual channel but he doesn't even need 4G for a HTPC anyhow.

Why you making this a HTPC. This is overkill! With a crosshair? Use a $100 board IMO and use 2 sticks of 1333MHz memory.

He's using whatever he want to use, silly!
He already ~HAS~ the board and CPU.
It will just be a really fast HTPC,.....LOL!

He already has three sticks of memory and wants to use them all, so he needs to buy one stick to preserve dual channel functionality, Junior.
One stick is less than 4GB is too. OP stated that he wanted to save money. You're spending too much of it.

Stop the war. I have two sets of tri-channel DDR3 1333 memory. I can use one of the tri-channel from the second set to fit four memory slots making for 8GBs! No?

Also I using the power of the Crosshair and the FX-6100 because I had an extra Crosshair board. I am going to use 4 HDDs in this new HTPC, 3 2TBs, and one 1TB. I'd say 6TBs + of storage ought to help, as our 16TB networked server is nearly full. HD movies take up a load of HDD space (LOTR set is 90GBs, while Star Wars is 124GBs). Did I mention those are all remux DTS-HD Master?

It's not war, he's messin' with me because he can. We tolerate him because he sometimes says funny crap. He wears dresses too.
