AMD Vishera FX-8350 (x86 Piledriver) Gets Pitted Against FX-8150 in Various CPU Benchmarks

Benchmark comparison of AMD’s upcoming FX-Vishera 8350 against the FX-Bulldozer 8150 have been posted over at OBR-Blog. The FX-Vishera processors are based on the x86 piledriver architecture which features improved clock frequencies for better performance and launches sometime around Q4 2012.
The FX-8350 features an Octacore design and comes clocked at 4.0GHz stock and 4.2GHz Turbo Core frequency. For comparison, the first generation FX-8150 is also an eight core processors clocked at 3.6GHz stock and 4.2GHz Turbo Core frequency. Both processors are built on a 32nm fabrication process with a rated TDP of 125W. Each CPU has 8MB of L3 Cache.

That's what I thought I read a week or so ago. At any rate, the performance gain is very insignificant here. AMD needs to do better than this and quick, otherwise my next purchase will be an X79 board and an i7-3820. I was hoping that AMD would pull a rabbit out of its hat so I could stick with them and keep using my Crosshair V board. Would have been nice to save that cash to get the performance I want but that looks to be a pipe dream. Damn you AMD.

if it has been scrapped why is some many people still reporting that it will be released soon? I saw the story where it was said to be scrapped then I say something that said that wasnt true. SO WTF IS GOING ON WITH AMD! GRRRRR!

It looks just like I thought a week or so ago that they cranked up the clock speed to make it look more competitive. Those are the same results you would get if you OC an 8150 a little bit. So it actually looks even worse for AMD since there suppose to be design improvements outside of the increased stock clock speeds.

    i hope this isnt true.

First, I know this post is a few months old, but first the "Vishera" (PileDriver) has NOT been scrapped, some are due for release around the middle to end of Oct 2012 (FX 8300, FX 8320, FX8350) and also maybe one 6 core and 4 core.

Also, as for those "benchmark comparisons", read carefully.. it's not an FX 8350 being tested, it's an AMD FX 8300 clocked up to FX 8350 speeds. The specs are wrong too, the FX 8350 is supposed to have 16mb of L3 cache, not 8mb, and I believe 16mb of L2 cache as well. Just because that FX 8300 was clocked up to FX 8350 speeds and the motherboard it was tested on had a beta bios that barely supported any tweaking of the Vishera series processor, does not mean that is what it's scores will be like. I truly believe the performance will be better than what is shown @ that link above!

AMD re-worked the Instruction set which is part of the problem and Piledriver is basically Bulldozer at higher clock with the new instruction sets. I think you will be surprised. The performance should be up. Our Trinity review goes live as the embargo gets lifted very soon.

You have no idea how happy I will be if AMD releases a high end cpu that is competitive. I will run out and get one soon as I can. Been waiting for something worthy of an upgrade. I look forward to the Trinity review.

Wow, this is encouraging Jim. I think this is the first somewhat positive comment you've had about Piledriver. Hope you get your review sample soon so I can see whether it's worth upgrading to the 8350. Be nice to get a better performing chip without having to buy a new board.

You just said they made improvements and Ill be surprised. lol Now you are saying they suck. Which one is it? I didn't mean they will be in the range of i7 extremes or anything like that. I mean a solid product that is worth upgrading to. Competitive with overall performance and price. Not something that chokes out on a excel document but is good for games. lol

I was hoping that AMD would pull a rabbit out of its hat so I could stick with them and keep using my Crosshair V board. Would have been nice to save that cash to get the performance I want but that looks to be a pipe dream. Damn you AMD.

Like I said before AMD needs to throw all of their devs in a room and not let them come out until they come up with something good.
