Default Help with RAM please :)

hey all, trying to find RAM suitable for my setup.

i am running atm a AMD Richland A8 6600k (possibly upgrade to the new Kaveri 7850K later in the year) with a Asrock FM2A88M Extreme4+ motherboard.

i am looking for 16GB (2x8G 2133MHz. most RAM i seem to come across says in the desciption suitable for intel systems Z87, XMP etc etc and does not mention anything about AMD???

the last thing i want to go and do is spend 130-160 on RAM for it not to work properly with my setup. can any one point me in the write direction / recommend certain RAM etc??

    many thanks

    Richard

Hmmmm, have you checked with the ASRock website to see if they offer you a QVL of all known-good RAM? Also bear in mind that if you are interested in overclocking your memory a bit that your options get a bit more hefty on account of your list now includes memory of slower speeds.

    ASRock > FM2A88X Extreme4+

It seems ASRock didn't test with too many 8GB DIMM's, but that doesn't mean that there aren't many that will work: typically it's been my experience that whatever memory manufacturer has been tested for that board will have compatibility with most all memory modules from that manufacturer. G.Skill seems to have greater compatibility than most modules I have seen, and they also have pretty stout overclocking headroom to boot. You can also shave some money off the cost by going with slightly loose timings: according to AMD's tuners/demo guys, APU's in general don't seem to be affected too much by tighter timings as much as greater total bandwidth since the memory controller is still a bit lacking.

Hope this helped, and feel free to ask any further questions if you have them!

This memory from ADATA is on the ASRock qualified vendor's list for your motherboard and is clocked at 2400MHz Speed. This is cheaper, but the same specs.

Here is a link to the ASRock qualified vendor's list for your board. If you buy memory listed here, they have to provide tech support to you and cannot say that you have unsupported memory.

Thanks for the replys but I am from the uk and would need to get that ram shipped over, was thinking maybe either g.skill or avixir venom or teamgroup Vulcan all 2x8gb 2133mhz or 2400mhz just trying to find sum reviews on them all to see what others think off them.

There don't seem to really be any 2x8gb ram on the motherboard list that's 2133 or even 2400mhz that I can get here in the uk so that's why I was trying to find out if it will actually work ok in my setup.

Yeah between G.Skill, Avexir or Team Group you can't really go wrong, though if you aren't feeling particularly adventurous then definitely stick to G.Skill.

+1 for G-Skill, as mentioned above they goes almost with every board, processor with no problem.

    Always look beyond the limits...
