Default Rumor AMD to launch new flagship Radeon graphics card this Summer

Take this with however many grains of salt as needed

I have recently had a very interesting conversation with one of the add-in-board partners of AMD. They told me that Radeon R9 290X will soon be replaced with a new graphics card. Graphics card that would take the performance crown back from GTX 780 TI. If you remember Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition, then you probably know where this is heading. There are basically two options, yet another Hawaii variant, or brand new GPU. Itís worth noting that there are some traces of a new GPU called Iceland. Could it be the new high performance heart of new flagship?

Irritated at the fact that I have 2x R9-290X's and I can't run them in an Xfire config till I waco them. They overheat crash catalyst and then I blue screen after 30-45 mins. Never had I had an issue like this with an Nvidia product. I always go with what is best at my time of purchase. AMD is seriously lacking on driver updates. Still having issues with Titanfall. Hopefully they don't rush it to market and put out a reliable product this time

That sucks bro. The Reference coolers are sh*t. Interested in a XSPC Razor block?

this kinda seems like a general problem with AMD GPU's lately, especially the problems with their reference coolers. Seems they are so pressed to regain the lead position in performance, that they dont have the time to develop proper products before they are released .

with my GTX 780 reference, i NEVER had major issues with the temps (actually the stock cooler is pretty decent i think).

( oh and hi again guys...i've been absent for quite a while )

The R9 Series cards, esp the 280x, 290 and 290x need aftermarket coolers for better support (or non ref coolers). The Ref Cooler just doesn't cut it.
I have 4x 280x and all of them are non ref coolers and they do a good job. The R9 290 I have also non ref does a good job, But this card still ran hot so I am returning it and getting a GTX 780 next. I thought I would give AMD a try this time around since I had nVidia the last update, but If I had to compare the 2, my nVidia cards gave me less issues but not by much.

Both side has problems. Just depends on your current set up. But I do have to say that my TRI FIRE 280X right now works without any issues.

TRI FIRE 280X is probably pretty pissed-off. I'd like to be suffering like that Kenny.
(I do have a second 280X OC on the way, but they're not the same brand)

Yet another thread turned in AMD sucks for whatever reason bitchathon!

I have 2 290s no issues. 1 280x no issues. 4 7950s no issues. The 4870 I have still works perfectly. If you went out and bought a 290 or 290x an didnt expect it to run hot then you are a tad slow since people have been saying this since it was released. You need great case cooling. Personally I dont think it is the gpu cores causing the crashes. I think it is the memory and\or vrms. I was stressing mine out and watching temps and I got it to fail with the same driver error. The GPU core was only at 56c. Wonder if the cooling solutions dont make good enough contact with them.

My ASUS R9-280X OC is golden. I really like this card.

Can't wait for the second one (HIS Brand 280X OC) to get here. Will try crossfire with them. I have waterblocks and backplates for my two GTX-680s already. This means that they'll probably go into my gaming rig (wet) and the two R9-280s will go (crossfired on air) into another box. I have fans that can develop the airflow to make it work.

The third PC will have my two GTX-570s in SLI but air cooled.

I'm done buying GPUs for a while.

You are gonna love the 280x in xfire. I am about to start a build with 2 290s with water blocks on xfire. Game on!

Just the one 280X works pretty damn good. CF will be great.

I xfired a 280x with a 7950 just for the heck of it. Put up some great bench scores. Think i mentioned that in the visiontek 280x review. A match pair of 280x will be even better. So hurry up and get some scores up slacker lol

I love all my AMD cards. They work flawlessly. My 2 x 7970's still kick serious butt.

I hear you Neil, I'm out of the GPU market for a long time. They are just to darn expensive.
