    Lightbulb AMD’s New Flagship Processor

    3.4GHz Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

According to some reliable sources it seems that AMD plan to announce a new processor, this processor is designed to directly compete with Intel’s Core2Quad range. The processor has been spotted on ASROCK’s website and is said to have a clock speed of 3.4Ghz per core.
The processor is said to be called the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, and has the same cache and power consumption as the Phenom II X4 955. Experts believe that the success of the processor will depend on accurate pricing, most of these experts believe it will be priced at around $320.
AMD may have to drop the price of the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition when Intel release their Lynnfield processors in the latter part of this year.
Check the full story on SlashGear.

That article says it will be $320 but another one I read said it could be $250.

Almost makes me want to do a AMD build.. eh' Stan?

Thanks to the exposure from places like youtube and various other sites showing the overclocking results of such masters as k|ngp|n, Shamino, and Chew* on the Phenom II's, AMD is getting its name back in the overclocking community. If it wasn't for the venture by these greats, we wouldn't have people now using liquid helium to push their overclocks even higher.

One day, i am going to be one of the people competing in these overclocking tounaments, and I would love to be able to use AMD's line of processors to get there. I was only about 180 MHz from getting my name on the ripping.org website for my old Athlon 6000+ system. I might try to hook up the new cooling system that I am building just to get my name up there. I don't think that there are very many Americans on the site yet, lol. It'd be nice to see "shattered.likeness_PureOC" up there.

I'd go for it! I really wish AMD would release more details on Bulldozer, that'd be the AMD build to go for!

As far as cost goes, 200 mhz for $70 doesn't sound like a good deal to me, so I'd just go for the 955 and spend the extra cash on a beefier motherboard and HSF.

Since Phenom overclocks so well, I'd love to see AMD put out official 3.6 and 3.8 Phenom II's here soon as well, just to do well in more review site benchmarks.

Heh, have you heard about the Phenom II 42 TWKR? While not an actual retail release, it's creating a lot of hype. They really need to work on their marketing. Even when they were owning the hell out of Intel in performance, they were still getting **** on in sales. Looks like they're trying to turn **** around with this chip. If you check the link, they'll also provide a chance to win one of these chips. Pretty neat.

    Details of the TWK revealed

There's been a fair amount of whispering going on lately about a new mystery chip from AMD, said to be a high-performance part aimed squarely at the overclocking community.
Pictures of the mysterious TWKR chip popped up a couple of days ago on wallacesantos.com, prompting much discussion about whether or not it was real or a hoax and how many volts it would take to push it.
We can now reveal and confirm after much sniffing about that the chips are indeed real, are focused on overclocking 140W CPUs running at 3.2Ghz, and are limited edition TWKR etched. If these chips are ever made available for sale they should be inexpensive and target budget enthusiasts, but that remains to be seen.
We've also been told by sources deep within AMD that the voltage on these high-leakage monsters can easily be pushed well past 1.40V or more in the hands of talented overclockers. So bring on the liquid helium, nitrogen, and dry ice!
The chips certainly look set to be record smashers, but without any actual benchmarks, we can't tell you conclusively. But, if what we've heard is correct and from our knowledge that Phenoms prefer cold over high voltages, these chips should be able to handle higher voltage better under extreme cooling, even possibly topping the 7Ghz barrier.
We're looking forward to seeing what overclockers will be able to do with these mysterious offerings, especially since the Phenom has already hit 8ghz on all four cores, something Intel has yet to achieve. The highest an i7 has ever gone with all cores enabled is just a touch over 6Ghz, and it looks like AMD is about to deliver yet another smackdown.

As to the name... We've just been told by AMD that TWK stands for 'Those Who Know'. Er...ok, so what's the R for? The answer? "It just makes it a verb that combines TWK with tweaker," an anonymous AMD spokesperson told us as we raised an eyebrow.
Right, so there you have it, boys and girls... TWKR, the chip for meth-heads! Enjoy!

Well shattered, lets see what we can do with the 955 and maybe I can ask them to hold on to one. Maybe add a rad and 3 elites into the mix. You have the one I sold to you, I have two more here, if we can get a 3 fan rad from some one, we can get started. Maybe find a way to add the Boreas into the mix, I do have an idea for this.

You'll need some LHe to beat the records on that chip! Water alone won't let you break any records. The suicide run in my sig was only possible due to a transmission radiator we had covered in ice. Regular water would be too hot.

PS, Doctor, what is an elite?

    From Tom's Hardware:
According to AMD, there are approximately 100 TWKR processors in the world. These chips were created especially for the extreme overclocking community to operate beyond the specification of typical production-level processors. What makes these chips special is the fact that they are considered “high leakage” parts. In this context, high leakage means that the processors "leak" more current than a normal Phenom II CPU and consequently run hotter, which actually turns out to be a positive for the overclocking crowd (even if it means they're more likely to die an early death). They can take on more voltage and generally tend to scale higher when cooled with extreme methods, such as liquid nitrogen or liquid helium.

Check out Deton's review of it here: http://www.pureoverclock.com/review.php?id=752

They don't allow for really high OC's on the Core i7's, but since AMD's run soooo much cooler to begin with, mine kept my Phenom II X3 720 at under 25*C at load @ 3.7GHz. Three of these in conjunction with a Boreas would be a total of 30 TEC's cooling the processor. This would probably get to around -25C, so insulation would definitely be nessesary.

@ Doc D: I've also found a block that we could use for this which uses a 437W TEC to help cool the water block as well. We'd have to see if the company in California is still making them though.

As far as cost goes, 200 mhz for $70 doesn't sound like a good deal to me, so I'd just go for the 955 and spend the extra cash on a beefier motherboard and HSF.

I agree, except if upcoming chips came with improved memory controllers.

I don't know all the ins and outs of chip production, but I wonder if better chips, that would have been 955's, will in the future, be 965/975/985 instead.

Maybe the odds of getting the best 955's and 550's are right now or in the near future.

The 955 has a better memory controller; it can support DDR3. The best 550s can unlock 2 cores and clock up like a regular quad, but the chances are slim to none on this. (They wouldn't have locked out 2 cores if they were fine)

@ psykl0n: The link in my post above was to Deton's review of the Elite. Or, you could look up Stan and Jake's review of it on nordichardware that they did before they took over here.

I think the 12 Tecs on the Boreas would do fairly well with the TWKR , the only way to find out is to get our hands on one lol We also are going to need a better board than what we have to work with. Maybe the Crosshair III Formula .

I checked the link, thanks for it. That unit isn't too impressive (under load, OC'd), but a larger one, as Doctor suggests, would be simply badass.
