Get 4 HDMI cables for $8.19 shipped
    by Rick Broida
Get four HDMI cables for less than you'd pay for one in a big-box store.

(Credit: Buy.com) This is an update to one of my most popular posts.

As regular Cheapskate readers know, HDMI cables are insanely overpriced. Pity the uninformed consumer who walks into, say, Best Buy, and walks out $30, $40, or even $50 poorer. Happens all the time.

But it doesn't have to. Help me spread the word: Buy.com has four 6-foot HDMI cables for $8.19 shipped, for a total of just $2.05 per cable.

Just in case you're new to all this, HDMI cables are used to ferry digital audio and video signals between your HDTV and gear like game consoles, Blu-ray players, and stereo receivers.

Are they all created equal? No, but there's ample scientific and anecdotal evidence that dirt-cheap generic cables perform just as well as their pricey big-name counterparts (cough *Monster* cough). Don't get suckered into buying the latter.

Indeed, I've used nothing but cheapies in my house, and they've always worked like a charm. Zero complaints.

These particular cables have gold-plated connectors and comply with the HDMI 1.3b standard. Even if you don't need four right now, who knows what your cable needs will be down the road? Never hurts to have a spare (or three).

Although only six Buy.com buyers have reviewed this bundle, every one of them rated it five stars. This is without a doubt a can't-miss deal.

I really havent understand yet if there is any noticable difference between a quality expensive cable from a cheap one concerning digital signals.I mean its not analog where gold plated and insulation does make a difference.I have a Monster 1000HD hdmi cable and a 10 euro hdmi cable no difference whatsoever on video or sound.Same counts for optical cables i use on my non hd home theater,i have monster cables and cheap ones no difference in sound quality.Maybe if you are a pro and own 20.000 euro equipment to notice something.

There is a great deal of research showing that the expensive cables have zero added value, even on high-end equipment. For example, monoprice.com has this 6 ft HDMI cable that complies with every single possible HDMI characteristic and every single feature, and it's only $6 shipped.

Yep, a second vote for monoprice, been using them for cables of every flavor for years. Inexpensive and super fast shipping at least for us in the US anyways.

I'll let you know once i have them set up, I have a 50" plasma downstairs with a HD cable box and HD DVD, plus a 48" LCD HDTV in my bedroom with the same setup only it's a Blu-ray DVD with a 1000watt HT set up. most of the HDMI cables were only 4' which is to short for the way I have things set up, so having 6' cables will be nice for a change, and you sure can't beat the price!
