Default New Case needed - your input please

    Hi guys

I've recently updated most of my components but the thing that is letting me down the most is the case I currently have - the NZXT ZERO2. What I would like is some suggestions as to what to upgrade to please, based on the following requirements and system specs. I have no experience with cases so really need guidance.

I need a new case so as to be able to install the gear I have correctly and at the same time providing excellent airflow to keep the system cool, while providing adequate space for my drives, facility for good cable management and with a preference to power buttons on the top, but not essential and of course, some external USB ports (don't need to be 3.0). There is no need for viewing panes on the side. Top mount 240mm radiator required, may possibly look at a larger radiator in the future. Colour - Black would be the preference, lights - not necessary.

Heat: I do a fair bit of benching with both my GPU's and also the CPU which I run (24/7 @ 4.8GHz.)While I don't OC my GPU's unless I'm benching they do run very hot when gaming (BFBC2 and BF3)due to the proximity to each other. (I may consider water for these in the future or move towards the 7990 when it comes out) Dual cards or a single *990 is the most I will ever have.

    Key requirements:
Excellent airflow to minimise system/case temps
Priority of air flow around GPU's
Space for top mount 240mm radiator with 4 fans
    Adequate HDD Bays
    Software based Fan Controller

The following components are what I have currently that need to fit adequately within the case.

    PSU: Silverstone Strider Gold 1200W
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 (2600k)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100 Extreme with 4 fans (all Corsair 120mm fans)
    GPU's: Sapphire Radeon HD6970 x2
    Memory: 16GB G-Skill Sniper 7-8-7-24 PC12800 1600MHz
    SSD's: - 2x
    HDD's: - 5x
    DVD Player: - 1x
Fan Controller: 1x basic dial operated (Will probably upgrade when I get the case)
Optional Case Fans: 4x 120mm Zalman

I would also like thoughts on a software controlled fan controller please.

Any thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated, price is irrelevant

    Thanks in advance

Clarify? You want a case with a built-in controller than can be adjusted via USB?

That right there makes this a very hard scenario. But cases with built-in USB fan controllers, that's rare.

I have no knowledge on fan controllers. I purchased a very basic model that I have now that controls my 4 case fans but I'd like something that could be controlled from my desktop rather than my case, if that is at all possible.

One of the first questions people say is what is your budget, well the answer is I don't have one, what I want is something that meets or gets very close to my criteria. If that comes with a $99 or a $599 price tag then so be it. The fan controller is not essential, the case is the priority. But if I can get a fan controller that can be controlled via the desktop then great, if not, then a good controller that is operated from the case.

I have several case reviews coming soon and one in particular that I feel fits the bill
and I think may intrest you, so hold off for a bit before you purchase.

NZXT makes a great desktop fan controller its a touch screen with all the tools you will need we reviewed it awhile back and its great
I own one and and love it http://www.nzxt.com/new/products/fan_control/sentry_lxe
It's CNC machined and made to last and monitors fan speed and temps you can manually set the individual fans to any speed or auto set them
to maintain the temps throughout your case.

How long to wait? Is the case you're thinking of a new product or something that is available on the market now?

Consider the NZXT external fan controller:
    http://www.pureoverclock.com/review.php?id=1190&page=1
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX1svPyCDYY

That is a light-load controller. Probably run 15 fans though, at 10w per channel max. It is NOT software. But it is "desktop". lol.

For software fan controllers you're looking at german companies. AquaComputer. Alphacool. T-Balancer.

Are you going for a rigid, or a showpiece style case?

/Edit Oh, Vin beat me. Didn't even notice.

Serious question: How do you feel about giant cube cases? Are they an option or would you prefer a more traditional case?

Interesting read...not really sure if that's what I want/need, but worthy to consider. As for show or rigid, depends on what best suits my needs, but in all honesty I'd rather it be more go than show. I'll be eagerly awaiting the news on that case as I was going to press the buy button tomorrow as I have busy days ahead.

As for software fan controller, the only one I known so far is mCubed T-balancer bigNG. It's a bare-boned unit, you need to purchase other extra accessories for it.

The BigNG comes with everything you need, to use it as a fan controller. You need no accessories. It has no bay device or display, it only works via USB and the included software.

If you like cube cases, check out Caselabs.
If you like traditional cases, but with WaCo support, check out:
    - the XSPC H2 (with optional second HDD bay). Inverted motherboard.
    - Cooler Master Storm Trooper. Lots of fan options. Integrated manual fan control. Likely the only case that has plastic molding, that I would ever buy. I hate plastic moldings, but this was designed well. Plus it isn't a hideous teenage raver case; it's stealth. I don't know if it will allow for push-pull in the roof, but it has 240 mounting and space for one set of fans.

BigNG comes with two digital & four analogue cables, RPM cable, software, usb cable. I should make it clear if you monitoring coolant temp then you have to purchase the extra sensor for it or flow rate sensor. It's also can monitor your pump..etc.

It's 100% monitor and control by software therefore no need front bay access.

I think earth and Deton hit it, caselabs is hard to beat for cases and the BigNG does the job.

yup CaseLabs if you want spacious for air flow but any fulltower from Lian Li or Silverstone is another good choice too.
