    Default [Build Log] Mercury S3

    Hi guys

I've just ordered a new, matte white, Mercury S3 from CaseLabs.
[Build Log] Mercury S3-mercury-s3.jpg(couldn't find a white picture)

I'm planning of doing a white/green/black color theme. The case takes about 2 weeks to arrive though . The hardware is going to be very similar to what i have in my current setup, because i have gotten my hands on an extra gtx 780, and since i don't own multiple monitors, and only run 1080p, there's no real reason for me to run it in SLI with the one i have.

i was thinking of either the ASRock Z87E or the ASUS Maximus VI Impact for motherboard, as it has to be an ITX board, and i really want the wifi to use the 5GHz band, and these are the only two available in my area at the moment.

will keep this thread updated as the project comes along

    thanks

I ordered the case december 27th, but haven't recieved my case yet...turns out it was stuck in customs for a few days before they bothered notifying me that they had my package. On top of that i have to pay 150$ in import fees for them to release it to me, so that just bumped the price of the case up another 50%, to a grand total of 436$. But that's the rules, so you just gotta go with it i guess.

with this minor setback out of the way, i should be getting the case by the end of next week (with a little luck, the danish postal service is terrible) and i can start the build in february

never heard of this brand, but the board you mentioned seems to be an ATX board, and i need an mITX board for the case. I don't intend to modify the case so much that i can fit an ATX board in it thanks for the suggestion though.

So the case FINALLY landed on my doorstep this morning! the windows are still covered in protective cover, and i don't think i'll remove this until i'm done working with it. Here's a few pictures:
    [Build Log] Mercury S3-img_20140131_140024.jpg

Everything but the front cover off, i'm planning on mounting lights (green or white, haven't decided yet) underneath the motherboard for a subtle effect:
    [Build Log] Mercury S3-img_20140131_140503.jpg

These two HDD/SSD mounts are going to be painted green, and i'm also mounting some green lights here, so they will show through the small grill to the left on the front of the case.
[Build Log] Mercury S3-img_20140131_140548.jpg [Build Log] Mercury S3-img_20140131_140626.jpg

i still need a new motherboard, and it should arrive next week, along with a few new watercooling parts and some cable-sleeving.

d i need to sand down the parts before painting them (it's all powder coated white)? i'm thinking it's probably best to do so?

anyway, I can't wait to finally gett started on this!

Man that's one of my favorite case labs cases. The bigger ones are nice too, but they're almost TOO big for what usually winds up inside of them. I feel like if they just trimmed up the cases just a TINY bit and brought their dimensions more in line with a more typical build that they would have broader appeal to them. Still, fantastic chassis and I'm really excited to see how the build turns out!

Still, fantastic chassis and I'm really excited to see how the build turns out!
i agree, most of their cases are really huge, and they do not have a lot to choose from in the mid size range. I would have like a sligthly thinner version of my case, but that would cost the room for HDDs and SSDs, which would have to be mounted somewhere else in the case (under the motherboard perhaps).

What they do in all their cases though, is use the space in them 100% they have prepared every corner of their cases for something, cooling, storeage or cable routing, and i love that about their designs. Well build and well designed cases, worth every penny

Ok so i got started on the build, and my plans painting some of the parts were scrapped, as i can't find a color i want, so for now the painting is dropped. anyway, i still went and installed some parts.

started by disassemble the entire case pretty much

as i dont have any HDD's, only 2 SSD's i didn't put the bracket for the HDD's back inside the case

after i put the PSU in there, i realised just how little space i would have for cables and pump

this is about as far as i am, i will post more pics as i move along i hope to finish by the end of next week, but i'm still waiting for a few parts...

yay i got my fancontroller, a Bitfenix Recon, yesterday...but after trying to get it to work for a few hours, a have come to the conclusion that the unit was broken when i connected it to a molex, that easily powered other stuff, the fancontroller would not light up the display or start any of the fans. I could not get the controller software to work either, so that was a real bummer...
