Default Is PC Gaming Really More Expensive?

One PC gamer challenges one of the more pervasive assumptions in gaming.

PC gaming is mega expensive. It's one of the most steadfast assumptions amongst gamers, an argument that crops up in almost every forum thread when the letters "P" and "C" are placed alongside one another. Few people stop to question whether PC gaming actually is more expensive than console gaming, and why would they? When you can buy an Xbox for £200, and a top-end graphics card can cost twice that, the question barely seems worth asking.

But I've always been sceptical about the presumed price-gap. So I decided to ask my good friend Maths for an answer. Here's the plan. We're going to examine the cost of running both a new PC rig and a new console set-up over a period of three years, looking at all the accumulated costs during that time, and see how they stack up. If you've avoided taking the PC plunge because of cost, you might find something hear to change your mindset...

Default Re: Is PC Gaming Really More Expensive?

I just think that PC gaming is better overall. Tried SONY, and XBox too. Wasn't impressed with them.
PC gaming is worth it because I like it and want it.

    Costs don't matter.

PC Gaming is expensive for me, but only because I'm constantly FROTHING at the mouth when I see new SSDs, GPUs, Cpus etc drop in the market. XD

Default Re: Is PC Gaming Really More Expensive?

PC gaming is the only way to go in my opinion. The graphics are better (and always will be), online multiplayer is better because the servers can handle more players, and a mouse/keyboard is a better way to game than a controller any day. My stepson is an Xbox gamer and, as this article pointed out, his games are always at least $10 more than the ones I buy on steam, and I get even more savings if I'm patient and wait for midweek madness.

Plus, I do way more with my PC than just game. I earn my living on it, it is my main means of communication, my main source for news and information, my personal retail store, and an entertainment platform beyond just games. Can't do all that with an Xbox.

So general opinion here is that Yes, PC gaming costs more, ~but we don't care~ because it's worth the extra money.

If you factor in the cost of cheap games you can get on Steam I think PC gaming can be a bargain and a superior experience.

And when it comes to Graphics your not going to beat it as to clarity and speed.

Of courses monitor Res, Graphic Cards and Cpu speed now coming into play
    alot more.

    Better, Big Time.
    More expensive, You betcha.
But also more versitle as what you can do with a PC.
But gaming just comes along for the ride.

Hey Mods, Can I just bump this thread a couple times to get to a 1000 posts
