    Default Steam Box

We all know about the highly known company knows as Valve, But something most people don’t know about, is their upcoming game console, called the Steam Box. The Steam Box is like any other gaming console, except it’s built along the lines of a PC. This is the first console developed by Valve. The console will not be running game disks but have digital downloads from the Steam marketplace, much like the PSP go handheld console released by Sony in Fall of 2009. The OS of the unit has been announced to be running Linux, but can have windows or any other OS of your choice installed. The hardware is said to be at par with all of the next-gen gaming consoles being released this year. According to IGN, the console will have the ability to connect to multiple monitors on a network, while maintaining different Steam accounts for all of them. No release date has been announced for the console, but there has been much talk of it being released very soon. Pricing is yet to be released as well.

How's this thing gonna play my Game of Thrones Blu-Ray boxset? What sort of motion control does it use? They gonna retroactively make their library Linux-compatible, or just some select titles? Can I watercool it? Those are pretty big handicaps, so I'd expect a substantially lower pricetag. Say $200.

In truth I hope it does well though. Nice to see more competition.

Thanks for your reply. The console is still in development and nothing has really been announced yet. It most likely will be able to be modified just as you would a pc including an optional standard or Blu-Ray disc drive. Currently, all titles are said to be working flawlessly with the OS.

I do have a USB drive here, but... meh. I'd just rather the device be large enough to accommodate a slim slot-in for convenience, even if it added $50 to the price.

Yeah, the PSP go didn't go very far with the whole "Nothing but Digital" scene. I hope it's just a sort of testing model, but not what the actual console will look and be like.

I will def be getting one of these!!! Almost all the games I play are on Steam and if they aren't I can easily add them to my steam library. I am excited about this product.

Ouya is a android based system with very little tech behind it and a very small library. They hope that developers will have a movement towards developing games for it. The steam box already has a huge game collection. It doesn't take a lot of hardware resources to run steam games. 2Ghz and 2Gb or ram. I don't know what they plan on for graphics but most current gen cpu's have enough gpu power to run most steam games with decent frame rates. I also heard that this will be a Linux based machine. About time Linux gets some main stream support
