Thumbs down Microsoft: No immediate need for next-gen Xbox

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/a...-xbox-720.html

Microsoft has said that there is no immediate need for it to launch the next generation of Xbox console, according to Develop.

Last month, EA chief executive Rich Hilleman predicted that Sony and Microsoft will release new iterations of the PS3 and Xbox 360 before the end of the current console generation.

However, Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer said: "Do we need to sell a new console at some point? I don't think we need to right now.

"We'll wait until our experiences are at the right point, like we have done with the Natal camera. We'll wait until everyone is ready for it from a software perspective."

Xbox division vice president Don Mattrick added that an Xbox 360 powered with the forthcoming Project Natal motion control technology would essentially be as good as a next generation console.

He explained: "I see [Natal] as like the launch of the Xbox 360 back in 2005 - there will be a launch portfolio of games to support it."

Mattrick also questioned the need for the next wave of consoles to feature a further boost in hardware specification as has previously been seen between the generations.

"In terms of putting more hardware on the market, what else can we do?" he said. "Put more memory in it? I don't think that's enough
