Default PS3 closes in on 360's global sales

    http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=257721

The PlayStation 3 is bridging the gap with Xbox 360 global sales, it's been revealed, as Sony's latest financial results confirm it's shipped just 3.6 million less consoles than Microsoft.

Sony confirmed this morning that to date, it's shipped 38.1 million PlayStation 3 consoles worldwide. Microsoft announced last week that its managed to ship 41.7 Xbox 360s worldwide.

The numbers are a huge contrast to last year, when Microsoft posted worldwide sales of "over 30 million" for Xbox 360 in May - over 7.3 million clear of Sony's 22.7 million shipped PS3s confirmed in March, 2009.
PS3 will overtake 360 this holiday season.

I made the mistake of buying a PS3 when they first came out. No titles then.....so I took it back and bought my 360. My desktop and laptop have bluray covered, and Live has always been better than PS Online, in my opinion. I will likely be picking up a PS3Slim this holiday season, though, because Sony has some nice exclusive titles too, finally. Who knows, though? The difference in console and PC graphics is graphics is beginning to get pretty significantly noticable. There's only so much developers can squeeze out of the 7800GTX based RSX in the PS3. Even though the X1950XTX based card in the 360 has a little more breathing room, both GPUs have reached their peak. There is some headroom left in the 360's tri-core, but not much. PS3's cell processor is great for supercomputational stuff, but it's too much of a pain in the ass to code for. That is why it will never be fully utilized for gaming, and that's a shame. I just don't know how they're going to get 5 more years from these systems.
