Help me choosing coolers

Hey guys,

After having my PC for a month, I think it's time for me to consider new cooling solutions.

The fans on my GPU and CPU are bugging the hell out of me right now, so those are the first which I want changed.

I'm running with the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 Motherboard, and using the G.skill Ripjaws for RAM. Just in case that changes anything.

For CPU:
Winner:
Prolimatech Genesis

For GPU:
Thermalright Shaman
Priced at +/- 52 Euros

Artic Cooling Accelero Plus
Priced at +/- 33 Euros

Which ones would you advice for each component? is the extra price really worth it? seeing as I'll only be doing a mild overclock, nothing extreme. I just want the machine to run cooler and more quiet.

The reason I went for the Accelero Plus is because I will be trading my 6950's for 560Ti's with a friend. The temperatures and noise levels of the 6950's are a bit too much for my liking. So I'm taking his 560Ti's and he'll be getting my 6950's. Then there's also the issue of the GTX Pro being a triple Fan design, will those actually fit on the GTX 560TI's? I'm planning on keeping them for my upcoming GTX 580's seeing as I don't really want to spent 70-110 Euro's on 2 coolers now, only to replace them in a month or two by another 70-110 Euros.

Also, are the Thermal pastes given with the cooling solutions good enough, or should I consider getting an extra tube of thermal paste? If so, which one do you recommend me?

Ever look at the Prolimatech Genesis? It will cool memory and is almost as good as the D-14

Here is a review some guy Jim did a few months ago! Fans are low speed and it is rather quiet inside a case. Actaully, your case fans will drown the low speed fans... The photo below is on a 890FXA-UD5 which essentially the same layout as the 990FXA.

Hmm, unfortunately the Genesis is only available here fanless for 70 Euros. Which means I'd have to put another 20 or so down for the Prolima fans. Which makes it 90 Euros for the Setup alone and I have to add 7 euros on top of it for shipping. Doubt it's really worth that kind of money, heh.

Ok, if I do decide to go with the Genesis, which fan do you guys recommend? Side note: I do like LED fans :P

Grumpy would be the best to ask or Steve. Duff has researched a gotta fans recently. I believe the Genesis takes 120mm or 140mm fans.

Steve, the Genesis performed quite well with 900RPM fans. I think the CFM's were around 80 and the fans were pretty quiet. The fans supplied were Prolimatech 140mm.

Edit; The fans were Prolimatech Red Vortex 14.17 DBA and 87 CFM. The are led and also come in blue. They run at 1000RPM.

Vex, remember due to the design, the unit supplies nice air flow to the memory also.

Yeah, the fact that it supplies airflow to the memory was definitely a factor to consider. I think I'll probably go with it, just for the mere fact that the design is "weird" in a good way. I like picking the not so standard things. Genesis it is.

The fans were included in the box? or did you get them in a separate box? I'm quite happy with the noise levels there, I'm not going to OC that much just yet, so silence is a major factor, seeing as the PC is in the living room where my GF watches TV, and I don't want to disturb her too much.

So much for the CPU cooler then, onto the aftermarket GPU, any ideas?

I wouldn't worry about an after market cooler for your 6950 they run pretty good with the stock cooler.
