Default Custom watercooling vs Antec Kuhler 920

I've recommended a friend to ditch his Antec Khuler unit and go for a custom setup as follows: MCP655, swiftech micro res, Heatkiller 3.0 Waterblock and a Black ICE GTX360 Rad and 3x Scythe GT Typhoons. With the Antec Kuhler on SB OC'ed to 4.5ghz @ 1.28v it is running about 66c on load and with the custom setup the load temps is about 60c on load, that's about a 6c improvment.

Can anyone advise if the temps are about right or it should be performing better than the 6c reported??

    Thanks in advance

Hi Bully, we just received the Antec Kuhler 920 last Friday, so I can't help you with temps yet, but I can tell you that the Corsair H100 will keep a 990X at 4.6GHz underload at 60c 58c 48c 50c 53c 46c. I should have temps with another 990X 480 Rad, and Koolance CPU-370 sometime this weekend, maybe even later this evening. It may be a good week or two before the Antec Kuller 920 review is live.

Bully, I have pretty much the same custom water as you. The pre built don't even come close. The 920 and H100 won't compete however the flipside is the price. I would suggest the Apogee XT rev 2 Waterblock. He will get 1 or 2 degrees better. I ran the Heatkiller 3.0 and although it is a great block, the Apogee XT is a bit better.

Little D,show us your current temps with your 920 or 930 at 4.5GHz with the 360 set up. You have never owned or even reviewed a Antec 920,Corsair H100 or H80, people like this kind of set up,
easy to install, no maintenance, and you can't beat a system with a 240Rad and two fans for $100, or less

As mentioned, the caveat is the price. I have seen the test results of all of them. Heck, I run 1.44v and hit mid 80's for a brief time. High 70's most of the run.... under 100% load........ at 4.5Ghz. They do not beat custom water....Nough said....

I will post a screenies when I get home if you like....

Edit: If I won one of these units I would cut it open and take pics just to expose how ****ty they really are. I wouldn't spend my own money to do it, but if I won one...

Bully; the GTX360 is a dense and restricted rad, it needs high rpm fans, perhaps above 2000rpm to see its full performance.

The reason why you recommended the HK 3.0?
It's a good block but there are better blocks can give you 2 or 3 more degrees.

66C for SB at 4.5Ghz, 1.28v is on the high side.

Is 1.28v is under load voltage or in the bios, and I'm assume the ambient temp is around 26-28c?

Can your friend measure the delta temp of the coolant at load?

    FYI, my set up;
    CPU-370
    RX360
Scythe F-Flex, RMP kept at 1200RPM
    MCP655

SB, 5GHz, 1.48 - 1.5v under load, 61C and ambient temp is 24C. The system is capable to keep coolant delta of 4C

I agree Stan, I have 2 systems, one with a Swiftech H20-330 Edge Kit and another with a Corsair H60. For me the H-100 will be my next cooler on any system I build. Don't get me wrong, I like the Swiftech Edge Kit alot but the maintainence is a pain and I think enclosed systems will replace DIY systems in the future. JMHO.

The HK is my old block which I inherited to him on the cheap, and he is starting out with watercooling for the first time, so I've infected him with your disease, so as soon as he is addicted he will start trying out higher end products. I've send him a note hopefully he drops but to provide more details on his temps.

My load temps are not that fantastic, I'm getting mid 60s on 1.36v for 4.7ghz overclock, I'm not sure if my MCP35X is maxing out due to the 2x GTX580 cards I have. But i remember my temps were much better than that when i had only 1 graphics card

I should have temps with another 990X 480 Rad, and Koolance CPU-370 sometime this weekend, maybe even later this evening. It may be a good week or two before the Antec Kuller 920 review is live.
Thanks Dr D, i believe the antec 920 is about the same as the basic Corsair H50 unit. I'm waiting for the Koolance 370 review as that is a block I've been waiting to know more about

I would suggest the Apogee XT rev 2 Waterblock. He will get 1 or 2 degrees better. I ran the Heatkiller 3.0 and although it is a great block, the Apogee XT is a bit better.
Yeah agree the HK is a quite an old block, but in terms of flow rate i believe the HK is better than the Apogee XT.

I own it for about 6 months and have not done a cleaning yet. But I check it on a regular basis and look for bubble and any sort of dirt or build up thast might occur, I wont have to worry about this with the H-100, and I bet the Antec 920 might be better than the H-100, just my guess, I really have no idea until I read Stans review.

Hi Alan, The Antec 920 does not have a 240 rad like the H100, it's built more like the H80. I'm loaded with samples, so I may send the H80 and 920 to Vinny to review, the costs of shipping to Canada is just to expensive.
