Default MCP655 Flow Rate / Head Pressure

    Hey all,

Trying to see if this will work. Based on what I have calculated the MCP655 at setting 5 is about 1200LPH. If I used one MCP655 (manual speed set at 5) will/Can it handle this loop:

    MCP655 > Swiftech MCR420-QP > Apogee HD > Swiftech MCR420-QP > Koolance VRD -6970 WaBlock x2 > Bitspower 250 Res

    Basically
    1 CPU Block
    2x GPU block
    2x 480 Quad Rad
    Res

I was planning to use 2 pumps in series, but thought maybe if I can get away running all that with one pump.

Also if you were to run 2 pumps, would you run it the pumps in series next to each other or spaced apart in the loop.

    Option#1
    MCP655#1 > MCP655#2 > Swiftech MCR420-QP > Apogee HD > Swiftech MCR420-QP > Koolance VRD -6970 WaBlock x2 > Bitspower 250 Res > back to pump

    Option #2
    MCP655#1 > Swiftech MCR420-QP > Apogee HD > MCP655#2 > Swiftech MCR420-QP > Koolance VRD -6970 WaBlock x2 > Bitspower 250 Res > back to pump

    Your thoughts??

If you are going to go the dual pump route (and with the size of your rads and # of blocks, I would), I would say to run them in series with one of the Dual D5 Bitspower tops. This will also help to future proof your loop, so that if you decide to add a mobo block, or more GPU's in the future, this setup will continue to handle it.

Default Re: MCP655 Flow Rate / Head Pressure

First of all you won't get 1200Lph, that's manufacture rated it. In real world, you would get around 800Lph (max) at 12v.

    Dual pump setup has pros and cons;

    Pros:
    • increasing head pressure
    • approximate 30% flow increases
    • redundancy (safety measure)
    Cons:
    • cost
    • complexity
    • hard to setup in confined spaces
    Let's define the above points.
Head pressure: if you add more pump in a series, you gain more head pressure. High pressure pump(s) benefit for restrictive loop.
Flows: you wouldn't get double flow just because you have two pumps.
Redundancy: in series; if one pump die then the other one will continue carry the work load without any serious damage to the hardware.
Cost: the obvious, the more part you have the more cost add up.
Complexity: if you don't use any special adaptor-top, it's harder to route the tubing from pump to pump. This is leading to the next point.
Hard to setup: if two pumps are not near by to each other then routing the tubing even harder.

According to your hardware listing. I estimate the flow rate for a single pump would be around 1gpm (4 liters), and with two pumps, it would give you a little tad above 1.5gpm (6lpm). The performance gain is from 1-2 degrees are the max but the cost would cost you at least $100 for a second pump or more if you go with dual-top cover or reservoir.

In my opinion, you have less than 6 blocks. I wouldn't worry about add on a second pump unless you must have a second pump as back up. Btw, you don't have to have two identical pumps in series. If space is restricted then you can use one MCP655 and a MCP350.

If you are still consider about the head pressure then I just replace the MCP655 with MCP35X instead. The 35x is on kick-ass pump, this will save you a lot of hassle of setting up and cost of doing dual pump. And if you still have your heart on dual 655 then I advise you to use EK dual-top with it.

Had posted this before, But if wanting space savings its hard not thinking about this one.

Going in mine when go to new MB and IVY.

    Dual pump. All in one.

Mine now, And not to much bigger as to space.

    Ya,

Kinda high, Until you total up two good separate pumps from whom ever.
And space needed and fitting ect. to set them up.

To do extreme water cooling setup is not cheap, $200 for 35X2 is fair price, it's equivalent two separate pumps. It's sound steep when you buy two pumps at once though.

What I like, And why I picked the 355, Was the head pressure compared to some of the other high end
    pumps.

If these are and think they are , Two 355's combined a good deal, Especially if pushing thru alot of Rads
and restrictions if you have them.

    Good cooling costs money.
    How Flow you wanna go.

Default Re: MCP655 Flow Rate / Head Pressure

    Thanks Denton and Irocing,

The reason why I asked is that I plan on buying one more MCP655 when I order my Rads..
I already have a MCP655 that is in my 700D rig right now mounted in a XSPC Res. Space is not going be a issue running them since this set-up will be doing into a TH10 build.

I also have a MCP355 that was in my old system mounted in a XSPC Res. that is not being used right now.. I originally had some issues with the pump but after a talk with swiftech I was able to find a fix and the pump is working just fine.

My plan was to swap out the MCP655 our and my MCP355 into my 700D rig and use the MCP655 in series with a new one and run dual MCP655, But If I can save money and not have to order another pump then that would save me some money for other items but wasn't sure if one pump the MCP655 will be able to handle the loop properly.

Should I use the MCP355 instead of the MCP655 in the waterloop listed above instead?? The only reason is the loop listed above will be my primary rig and used more often. My MCP355 Pump is 2 years old and has a unknown amoumt of time already on it. I feel my MCP355 Pump may cause a reliability issue since I don't recall the hours used on this pump. Plus from my experience so far the MCP655 is a more reliable pump compared to the MCP355, 350 and 35x pumps.

    Dual pump. All in one.

Mine now, And not to much bigger as to space.

I actually have considered this set-up from when I saw it posted up a few weeks ago...
I like how the look and the white would really go good with my TH10 Case.

I am using the Apogee HD block in white so this will match nicely..

$200 is not bad considering it comes with a top.

Since the mcp355 is older than the mcp655 then why not use the mcp655? You should have any problem with it. You can keep an eye on the temp, if you don't like the temp with one bump then you can add on another pump later.

yea, The plan is to use my MCP655, But you said the MCP355 might be stronger so would I asked if it would be better to use the MCP355.
I may just start off with one pump then add another if temps are good like you said.

Since you already have a 655 I'd just use that, Both good pumps.

Then if needed can always double up since space not a factor.
Reason I'm going for the dual is space and fewer fittings, Clamps and tubing to play with.
    Plus, redundency.

Default Re: MCP655 Flow Rate / Head Pressure

Here another question, Would it be ok to use the MCP655 mounted in my XSPC Res, then run another MCP655 stand alone without issues???
This would also save me money in buying another Res as well.
