    Default Re: fans

The CPU fans should be PWM style fans. That's a Four-Pin connector on the fan that plugs into a four pin plug on the motherboard. This allows the motherboard to control the fan's speed according to the temps you're getting. If thing warm-up, the motherboard sends a signal to the fan to speed up to counter the heat. When things are cool, the motherboard slows the fans down too.

Some fan controllers have a PWM plug on them that goes to the motherboard. You can set the fan controller up to "read" the PWM signal and control the speed of every fan (faster or slower) that's connected to the controller at the same time.

This is my preferred method. Great balance of silence and cooling performance.

After trying numerous PWM fans, the best I've found are the Noctua NF-F12's followed in distant second place by the Cougar Vortex.

The best non-PWM (3 pin) case fans I've found so far are the Bitfenx Spectre Pro fans.

When it comes to fans, my experience has taught me to not skimp on price and buy the expensive ones. At least in this area, you really do get what you pay for.

    Default Re: fans

All of my case fans are running off of the PSU's power and at full speed. (but they're all quiet fans)
My H-80's two 120mm Cougar fans are PWM controlled by the motherboard.

    I also have a ceiling fan,........(so what)

Hey Jim, why did you welcome a spammer lol I just banned his ass. next time please read the complete post before welcoming someone to Pure OC. The guy was talking about soccer fans, and different teams, not PC fans.

When you have a chance email me, I have to talk to you about something that happened yesterday.

    Thanks Jim
