It will automatically ride on a cushion of air and the height is self regulating. Similar to the way HDD heads float but with a coarse tolerance. It is this close measurement that disturbs the boundary layer allowing the transfer of heat they say.

The only part I don't quite understand is the positioning of this on a cpu...I'm not sure if, having the motor above the center would matter or whether the reduced turbulence there in the air cushion in the center would make that an effective dead spot for cooling.

Love to have one to experiment with though.

They need to invent something like an air conditioner that will cool way below the ambient temps.

Little bumps that measure .01" thickness on the bottom four corners of the cooler would do it. Rest them directly on the corners of the CPU and fasten it down securely.

Re-Read the original post and realize that it's all spinning and the air gap covers the whole CPU surface.
The Cooler's mount would have to be very robust to keep that .01" tolerance at all times,...but I'm sure that they'll have it figured out.
The claim of 30 times better efficiency is wild. That would mean some very good cooling and bring a lot of potential to overclocking efforts too..

The Cooler's mount would have to be very robust to keep that .01" tolerance at all times,...but I'm sure that they'll have it figured out.
The claim of 30 times better efficiency is wild. That would mean some very good cooling and bring a lot of potential to overclocking efforts too..
Be getting close to WC and probably once enough out there would be a whole lot cheaper,
    And less hassle.

I read it as; the base of the unit, which houses the motor with its connections and is currently made of aluminium, attaches to the heat source. Then the fan "turbine" floats above that so that the heat still travels from ihs to heatsink then the turbine acts as the fins and fan combined of a normal HSF
