Default Need help on H80 problem!

I saw a post about hooking up the H80 or H100 to a fan controller to lower down the voltage so the grinding noise would decrease.
    1. Would doing something like that damage the H80 anyhow long term/short term?
    2. I bought the adapter and tried to connect the molex 4 pin to my 3 pin fan controller, the pump is working but mobo giving alarm sound
(I tried to shut the pc down, connect H80 to fan controller and alarm still happened)
What do you guys think of this?
    please let me know
    Thank You for any help.

Did you disconnect the fans from the mobo header? If so the alarm is probably because it didn't detect a fan other than that a problem with the H80 should never cause a mobo error.

I hope you had the pump plugged in ? that 3 or 4 pin should be going to your CPU fan header.

The alarm is because nothing is connected to the CPU header on your motherboard. I would not recommend connected the H80 pump to a fan controller. It doesn't move that much fluid to begin with so reducing the power will only slow the pump down more and reduce the cooler's effectiveness. The pump should not be making a grinding noise even at full speed.

Above is the link to the thread.
Yes i have the 3 pin connected to the mobo. The whole thing is that to get the pump quieter, ppl found a way to slow it down a bit (2100rpm to around 1900-2000 rpm)
As to the pump noise, alot of the H80 experience rattling noise. Mine is not that much, but also i can hear a humming noise. I tried to turn off all the fan in the case, including the rad fan for like 2mins, and i still hear that humming noise. I want to try to lower the pump rpm down to see if the humming come from the pump or not. That is the whole reason I'm trying this

As to alarm sound, I think it comes from that the mobo doesn't sense any cpu fan connected. But the H80 comes with 2 connectors for the pump, 1 3pin for mobo and molex 4 pin for power, relying on the mod, im connecting the molex 4 pin instead to the power supply to the fan controller, and i get the alarm (3pin still connected to mobo)

You just can't plug it into any fan header. it has to be plugged into the CPU fan header, and the pump should not be making a grinding noise

(Update) Turned off cpu fan warning in bios and alarm go away. Thank You
And lower pump speed by 20% and humming noise go away.
Lets see how lowering pump speed effect anything.

I have found that the CPU fan warning will sound on a cold boot on my Kuhler 920 because the fans don't ramp up to the mobo's liking immediately because the liquid is cold, not sure if its the same for the H80.
