Default pc turns off after playing pc games

Just added a nvidia 550ti to my rig and everything was ok for awhile and now every so often my computer just turns off after awhile of playing computer games and i was just wondering if it could be a overheating problem. Because i can do general web browsing for many hours and the computer is fine. could it be that the cpu getting too hot (1200rpm fan) or do you think that it could be the nvidia (auto fan speed set) hits around 70c should i just turn off the auto setting and set my own say 50% or such.

Run your computer with the side panel off. Do this for a day or two. See if the problem persists.

The GPU is "safe" all the way up into the 90-degree range. It may be that the addition of the new GPU is just enough to add a few degrees to the CPU (heat rising), and cause the shutdowns. There are numerous things you can try, but the easiest would be to just add more ventilation (more fans) if you have that option.

ok thanks i'll try with the side panel off and if there is no difference then my last option is to change the cpu cooler as i have already maxed out the number of fans that i can add. Would you be able to recommend and good coolers for a mini ATX/AMD2+ cpu ?

You're CPU is getting to hot, (Is your new graphics card preventing some airflow?) The max temperature of most AMD chips is 60c

Your particular CPU's limit is 71c

There quite a bit of room between the gpu and the cpu and there a lot of room for air flow. The gpu's hot air blown down to the bottom of the case and then out through the side panel while the cpu is blown stright out through the side panel.

where are you located ? I might have a cooler for you, which I'll give you, but you would have to pay the shipping fee, but before we get into that, how old is your computer, and when waqs the last time the thermal paste was changed ?
If you have no idea, than most likely your heat problem is due to old thermal paste, which is a quick and easy fix.

Ok so the first question is how is shutting down, BSOD or just powering off completely with no notice.

A good place to look would be your system event viewer and how good is your PS.

You can download realtemp or speedfan if you think its temp related, either should give you an idea of what is happening temp wise.

could be playing a game like alan wake or tf2 maxed settings think it did it for battlefield 3 and then it would just switch off everything.

A good place to look would be your system event viewer and how good is your PS.
could you please tell me how to get into the system event viewer and my psu is quite good it not cause me any problems play game for short amount of time or web browsing for hours and streaming films.

been using pc wizard to keep an eye on the temps and they did reach around the 40s/50 but after that forgot to keep an eye on it so it could be overheating ill have to have another go at play games and keep a better look at the temp.

ok i have opened the event viewer is there something that i should be keeping a eye out for. decided to keep an eye on my temperatures and play some games at the same time so i kept playing and going back to see the temperature and it was around 48 to 53 and then left it for a little longer then my computer just turned it self off.

I had system shut downs and it turned out to be my PSU. I got a new one and the problem is gone!

Look at the system log in the event viewer at the time it shut down.
