Default Anyone Running 2 4870X2 Cards

I'm building a new rig & putting in two Sapphire 4870X2 Cards this week.
Using 2 EK full cover waterblocks, each with separate twin rad system.

    Anyone have/tried this?

    Advice?

Well - I got the 2 EK blocks this week, (cripes $160 in Duty & Broker charges at the border  !!!!) but I am holding off now until the X58 EK Kit for the Asus p6T-DX & the EK CPU block arrive
    - don't like the MB & CPU temps (40-60).

Probably will put all the WC components together next week. Won't do just the 2 cards first, as the MB & the rest will have to come out for this. Might as well do it in 1 shot.

    I'll report back when done.

RE-EDIT - I will use this topic again as I plan to use pics & a bulid log & so as to not steal the other thread.

Updating & re-posting from the other thread

Did some more Inet shopping yesterday & ordered

EK-Mosfet ASUS X58 KIT - Acetal Water Blocks
EK-Supreme Premium High Performance Water Block - Acetal (1366 Compatible)
Two EK-NB/SB5 Water Blocks – Acetal
    Feser One Fluid UV CLEAR,
Primachill Primoflex tubing, anti-kink coils & SS clamps
Three sets of StarTech SATA II aluminum drawers & caddies

Instead of getting a bazillion f, y & y fittings for the MB & CPU blocks,
    - I'll make some copper 3/8" coolant distribution manifolds.

I think I'll put the two cards on 1 loop & the MB & CPU on the other.

I have 3 spare single rads & a spare pump & if need be I'll run a separate loop for each card.

I will most definitely have to vent the heat to the outside.
Playing Crysis @ 1929 X 1200 yesterday heated up the whole room unbearably.

    Ran 3D Mark - 18172 3DMarks

MB & CPU temps were fair ~65C
    - it's a cool morning here, so large case fan on the side was drawing in cold air from outside.
    - Also no turbine howl fron the 4870X2 card's fans

It's not neccessary to WC MOBO/NB/SB for X58 board.
Yes, you should start a build log and post it in Worklog section.

Water cool or no water cool, an overclocked i7 and two 4870x2 will dump a lot of heat in the room, your room bettter have A/C or you will be toasted or you will be over cooked in the summer.

Looking forward for the worklog...BTW....I feel your pain about custom fees.
Have you ever shop at NCIX or DirectCanada or DesMod?
They might don't have all a large selection like PerformancePCs or FrozenCPU but to avoid to pay duty fees as much as you can.

$160 in duty fees + $300ish for two FC blocks...YIKE!....that's only 1/4 of the parts.

    Deton,

Hi – thanks for the replies & advice

    RE: "room temperatures"
Yep, as I indicated, I will need to vent the 2 twin rads to the outside.

RE: “It's not necessary to WC MOBO/NB/SB for X58 board.”

I ran a few more sessions of 3DMark in a row, with the CPU set back to stock ~2.63Ghz.
As well as playing Crysis for a while.

The CPU & MB temps were running in the 70-80+C range.

So I did a bit more research on the net & found these boards tend to run fairly hot.

So I figure running WCing on the rest of the MB can only help things out when I start to set the CPU up to ~3.5Gnz.

The MB WC parts are already on their way from the US & should arrive early next week. (another hefty Duty & Brokerage (extortion :mad charge is expected.
Actually the 2 EK blocks for the 4870X2 came to about $600 with Duty tax etc.
I strongly suspect the total WC bill will be $1500-$2000 when all is said & done.
I tried & suceeded in getting most of this build's part from Canada - but as usual & unfortunately, some things, especially WC parts, are only available outside of Canada. Such is life...

& Tx for the heads up about the Worklog section. I'll check it out.

Are you serious your MB temp gone up to 70c?
I can see the CPU go up that high but not the MB.
The highest my MB temp is around 45-50c, that is depend on ambient temp.

I think you have poor case air flow due to the two 4870x2 exhaust to much hot air in the case.

Well as my worklog unfortunately indicates LINK

[Please read the LINK for what was done]

Everything was put together VERY carefully

    & no video Bios/post screen - NADA

We tried all the trouble shooting we could at my place - no luck

Now it is in the shop & my IT buddy will try this week to see what is going on...

I am EXTREMELY upset (to say the least)

Funny - I was thinking of asking Deton to come up here & stay over to help with this.
I was going to hire & pay him well for his time & pay his transportation costs & my wife was going to feed him like a king.
I even had the PM written but didn't send it out of respect, because I thought that would be imposing, as he has only "known" me a short while & you know the internet protocol safety thing.
In retrospect I should have at least given that a try...

    Oh well....
    Regards, Doug

    UPDATE

the "burnt" part controls the EPU option - they will do some bench testing - as they figure the board is functional otherwise except for that power saving feature

There is also a potential buyer at $150 if it checks out otherwise

I have the new board in & all the EK blocks hooked up & running

TEMPS (ran a few 3DMark06 sessions back to back score = 18,559

    ..............IDLE...............TESTING
    CPU.........41C................53C.....
    GFX.........32C................36C.....
    MB...........41C...............42C....

    Not too shabby

Also, just as the tests ended The temps dropped instantly to IDLE

The flow meter in the CPU NB/SB Mosfet loops is moving well BUT
not near as fast as the one in the twin 4870X2 loop

Now I have to reset the RAM back to 7-7-7-20

Then I can start tweaking the i7 920 upwards
    Regards, Doug

Aplogies to EK - it was "our" own damn fault

on the bottom right of the pic circled in a black "D"- "we" cut off the pad as we only needed the inside screw hole
the copper part with the not needed hole was not covered & that is what touched & shorted the MB

My bud came over & set RAM timing & OC'd the 920

I am running at 3.588GHz right now

    My 3DMark went from ~ 18,200 to 22,644 (quite a difference! ~25% increase)

MB & CPU temps ranged ~47C
