    Default New Xigmatek fans

Xigmatek has just expanded its cooling offer with a little something for modders, a couple of LED-equipped case fans - the 170mm XLF-F1703 and 200mm XLF-F2003. Both fans boast four white LEDs, and features a working speed of 800 RPM, a sound output of under 18 dBA, and a life expectancy of (just) 30,000 hours.

Well, well. Boy does that 200mm fan look familiar. Can it be?

I compared the second fan with this. I got mine on clearance for $5.99US. Flip the notebook holder over and you see that their 184mm fan is contained in a 200mm frame. The blades are identical in shape. The ears are identical. Same fan!

I then split the USB line, opened each wire, slid this in and twisted to the wires. Plugged into 5v, it's a USB fan for a notebook cooler. Plugged into 12v, it's a 200mm case fan.

    Cute. And $5US was a great price . . .
