Default Complete noob wanting to oc i7 950

Hi I have read through quite allot of posts and thought I would give it a go.
The only problem is as soon as I start changing things it won't go past the windows loading screen.
I have run prime95 for 1hour on standard/auto bios settings.
It holds about 60c across the 4 cores.

Can any one run me through this, I'm not that worried what ghz I end up with, I just want the experience of overclocking.
I have added my sys spec in user cp.

    Welcome to PUREOC!

I'm sure you have read a lot of post but you haven't read this thread, right?

And second; you are using X58 board which support Triple channel memory and why is on earth you're using dual channel memory instead?

Ok, this is stable and stress testing shows 79 degrees.
I'm more than happy with the speed but the temps are still to high.
Is there any way I can lower the temp, like lowering the volts somewhere or something?

It was running good 75 degrees but after 1 and a half hours it crashed windows.
I might try and drop it to 170mhz and try again

See my thread on the 950. It runs hot, it seems like it runs hotter then some folks 920's even. I know this probably isn't actually true, but i've had a rough time with getting stable 4ghz on it wihtout breaking into the 80's temp range

Are you happy with the OC? if so stop, if not see how much further you can push it, one thing I will say is you won't notice a difference between 3.9 and 4GHz.

Is that on air or water?
I'm quite happy I can get 3.9GHz on air, I don't think I will make the change to water.

Yeah I'm more than happy with my OC, I didn't think I would get this far.
I have been stress testing for 5 hours now with no errors, I think I'll call it a night. I might try and fine tune it a bit more but first I'll have a look at the memory

Try the ECO C240 with the 4 fan set up or you can call CoolIt and do a custom order for the Vantage 240 . The Vantage 240 would more than likely lower your temps to the mid 60c range maybe lower

Can any one help me sort out my ram? I have 6GB of corsair dominator 1600, but it's only running at 1363MHz is there way of raising this separate from bclk.

By the way I would like to thank every one on this forum, without all the information here there is no way I would of got this far.
    Cheers

You have no choice but increasing the Bclk to 200 if you want to run your mem at 1600MHz.

    You have two options:
    1. 200 x 20 = mem at full speed and specs
    2. leave where it is and tighten the RAM timings
what is your ram CAS at 1600MHz?

    My ram is 9-9-9-24

I set bclk to 200 and multi to 20.
I also turned HT off so temp is now running at 64 degrees.
Seems like I can squeeze a little more out of this.
How much CPU voltage increase do you think it would take to get to 4.2GHz? I'm at 1.27 at the moment
