Yea that's bad. You're using the stock voltage right? What is you clock? [Is the cooler passively cooled?] Looked it up, it is not. Here's some coolers http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...G&PageSize=100 to look into, that CPU should run pretty cool so you shouldn't spend more than $30 on a new cooler.

Yea, indeed way too hot. Stock intel cooler (with fan) @2.25 ghz. Just set the bios back to default clock speed, I dont want to melt my CPU

I'm not sure why its running so hot, most of the reviews on newegg said they could run it at 2.7GHz with the stock fan and voltage.

Could a vacuum cleaner help? In other words, can dust on my cooler be a problem? Also, I've seen a few sizes in stock coolers. That might be the problem. Just look at google images, there are a few sizes.

reapply the heatsink with some good thermalpaste and clean it.

Cleaning the dust could definitely help since it's over 4 years old, applying new thermal paste could also help if you have so available, if not you may want to look into getting some new stuff. Also just curious but how has it been stored over the years? (eg in the box, on a shelf etc.)

It has been in active use since it was built. The current cooler has been in place for about a year now and it has been quite hot since the beginning, so I dont't think it is the thermal paste. I think I'll just buy a decent cooler. I'm considering the Coolermaster Hyper 212 evo. I can get it for just under €30. The cooler a CPU is the longer it lasts, seems to me, or am I wrong?
