Your good to go with 1.4 volts and even over as long as load temps stay under upper 70's

I got unlucky with my chip, or my settings suck. On the Z68 Extreme 3 Gen 3 with the 2500K I'm getting 4.4GHz stable. Even if I push it to 1.4V it wasn't stable at anything higher. =/ Good luck with yours though!

I was using the XSPC Fans at 2000RPMS (75cfm) in push pull with a EX360.. I didn't do it with my ASRock Z68 board...
I got the 4.8ghz with my Asus Z68 Maximus Gene board with the 2500k, I had it on my tech bench prior to getting my Z77 3570k set-up.
I no longer have the ASRock Z68 board under water with the 2500k.

Have you tried playing with your LLC and NB VCore?? Sometimes you may have to nudge it up a bit to get better stability.

You can actually find some air coolers out there that aren't to expensive that can achieve the same. Watercooling helps, but with the 2500k doesn't run that hot since it doesn't have HT.

It's been awhile since I've played with it. After I finish enjoying my computer for gaming for a bit (been away from it too long for the watercooling upgrade) I'll have to try tweaking the processor again. I'll give the LLC and NB VCore a try when I do. Thanks for the advice.

Guys, many people have gotten 5GHz with the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ which is not the best cooler with decent temps. If the temps are too high:
    • It may be a air circulation problem inside the case. Check your fan configuration.
    • A poor chip requiring more voltage.

2500k's run much cooler than 2600K's with no hyperthreading. Air cooling should allow over 1.4 volts on vcore. How much? I am uncertain. You can run the Sandybridge chips over 1.4 volts (I think 1.4 volts is max most are saying). It seems the original Sandybridge chips(either 2500K or 2600K) got 5GHz pretty easily. The current steppings definitely seem to be a little tougher.

I'm using a corsair H50 with push-pull fans. 2000rpm CM sickle flow fans. It was actually my first overclock using AI Suite II (which was criticized by my friend later that day saying I should OC through the bios LOL).

Played BF3 with it, temps reached to 55C. Ran Prime95 for 23 minutes, reached 80C+ so I shut it off. I think he also said the voltage is about to reach limit and is alarming @_@.

Right now, my i5-2500k is OCed at 4.00Ghz. Do you really need to run Prime95 for 10 hours+ to call it "stable"?

The H50 is a decent cooler, but I have seen air coolers out there that can beat it...If I have some time this weekend Ill throw my asus board and 2500k back on the bench to see what I can get with the air cooler I have. Ill take some screen shots to help you guys out.. I have a Noctua Cooler that I can probably test with..

I normally run prime for about 3 hours for stability. Right about 2.5 hours is when prime 95 takes a spike to the chip and mobo and if its not stable it will crash there..
