    Default Guidance to overclock 3930k

Hey guys looking for some help in overclocking my 3930k , the clock im aiming for is 4.5ghz for everyday use gaming i don't care if it won't be stable for benchmarking or burn tests etc as long as it's not gonna lock up during gaming use

    Cpu : i7 3930k
Motherboard : Asus Rampage IV formula
    Ram : Corsair dominator 16gb 2133mhz 4 x 4
    PSU : Seasonic gold 1250w x
    Case : Silverstone TJ 11
Cpu Cooler : Corsair H70 ****** noctua was way better in my old pc
Video card : EVGA GTX 680 Classified 4gb

I tried loading the asus gamers profile that seem to put the vcore to 1.4v and the turbo to 4.8ghz

What im confused at is when we overclock these cpu's do they stay at stock clocks and just ramp up with turbo or am i doing it wrong and we disable turbo to get a static overclock like on the old i7 920

Could you please walk me through the basics of doing this i had great success with my i7 920 on this forum having it run at 4.4ghz on air which was amazing

    Thanks in advance

Take the vcore to 1.35 volts. If that don't work, 1.375. The formula should have pre set settings in the bios.Use 4.4Ghz or 4.6GHz. 4.8Ghz will prob be unstable. You cannot disable Turbo. leave it alone.

Ok so when i load the pre set settings it says turbo target 4.4 or 4.6 or 4.8 is that the normal way to overclock now theres no static value as in when i right click properies it still says my overclock is 3.20ghz but when using real tempt i can see the clock going upto 4.4ghz is this correct ?

Also for the memory settings should i use the XMP profile ? i noticed when i put 4.4 or 4.6 and then selected xmp it reverted the target clock to 3.6

Vitale, The 3.2Ghz is the stock frequency. It is reading that. The preset overclocks are somewhat stable. If they aren't add a little Vcore. And yes, XMP settings on memory should work. Hope that helps.

Loaded up the profile that set it to 4.7ghz selected xmp and pushed the vcore like you mentioned to 1.35 anything below seemed to either crash pc or freeze

Are these acceptable temps at 90% load during a windows test i know when gaming a cpu won't ever get close to that so assuming games don't lock up the pc its good enough right ?

What sort of temps am i aiming at with air and a h70 or what would u consider safe and no real risk / damage
