Default Overclocking AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE with Corsair H100 all in one system

Well, I finally got the computer running. I'm now running Prime95.
I've got coretemp and CPU-z running as well.
I used the Asus auto overclocking tool, and it got me up to 3.974GHz.
    233.78x17.0
HT Link (no clue what this is) 2337.90 (Average)
    Core voltage, 1.512V

I'm curious, with all this running, (H100 on medium fan power) is an average processor temperature of 54C okay? It hasn't gone above this, yet. It's been running about an hour now. Going to let it run all night.
I know the MAX temp is 62C, so I'm under that which seems good.

I'm curious as to if I can get this processor to OC more, if I did it manually. I've heard and read that the auto overclocking utility creates too much heat for the over clock it gives.

If anyone has any input, all is welcome, as I'm new to all of this. But finding it very fun.

as long as you can stay under the threshold you should be golden..
1.5volts seem a little high, but I forgot what the avg. voltages are for the older phenom chips.

I'm going to ask my buddy to come over and help me out. He's better at this than I am. But I am pretty sure, doing it manually will get me a higher OC, with less heat. Or so I hope.
I'll also play around with the fan directions.
Most likely going to have the H100 PULL air from outside the case.
I'ts pushing air out of the case, but that air can be warmer, resulting in less cooling capabilities.

If it is a newer stepping on the 965, you can get up to 4.5GHz. If it is an older one, 4.1 or so will be the highest. You can safely take Phenoms up to 1.55 volts as long as load temps stay under 55.

How would I know if its the older or newer?

But I'd be happy with 3.97, except the memory is capable of 2133, the board is too, yet it's clocked at 900mhz..

Before I ran auto overclock, the memory was clocked at 1600...

May reset it all to get the memory back up.

Actually, I vaguely remember reading the memory clock speed won't read literally 2133 or 1866.. It'll read similar to what I am seeing, correct?

Mine would be the C3 stepping.
I looked online how to tell, and I guess if the SKU ends in an M, it's the C3. And well mine is HDZ965FBGM

If you are maintaining good temps with 1.5volts you should be ok, As Jim already mentioned the chips can handle the voltage, but if you can get the same results with lower voltages you will prolong the life of it. Remember when OC the lower the voltage the longer the chip can survive. Heat is its biggest enemy when OC. Your chip is recommended at 62c max, however you don't want to run it its max ALL the time.. Try to keep temps under 55c OC'd and that should be good.

Have you tried to lower the voltages to 1.4 or 1.45volts to see if you can maintaine the OC stable??

If you are maintaining good temps with 1.5volts you should be ok, As Jim already mentioned the chips can handle the voltage, but if you can get the same results with lower voltages you will prolong the life of it. Remember when OC the lower the voltage the longer the chip can survive. Heat is its biggest enemy when OC. Your chip is recommended at 62c max, however you don't want to run it its max ALL the time.. Try to keep temps under 55c OC'd and that should be good.

Have you tried to lower the voltages to 1.4 or 1.45volts to see if you can maintaine the OC stable??
We'll to be honest I don't know how to overclock manually.
I just used the AutoTuning feature on the asus mobo.
It did it for me, lol.

I want to learn how to over clok though.

Default Re: Overclocking AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE with Corsair H100 all in one system

This morning I played with the fans and the air flow.
I decided to reverse the fans on the rad to PULL cold air through them from outside the case because my house is an ambient 68F.

I've been stressing it for a while now, and the temp went from 54-56C before.. to not a constant 47C.

Also, the voltage somehow weent to 1.512V.

This weekend I'll look up how to OC manually, and give it a shot. Knowing I have the C3 stepping, (CPU-z says so as well) I'm told I can get it around 4.5GHz (if I'm lucky) but I'll shoot for 4.1-4.2.
