Default OC a Quad 9550 using VID or "pinmod"

Before anyone can give me a mod for my Q9550, I welcome you to check out these forums I have posted on other web sites: WORKING PIN MOD (bsel) for core 2 quad q9550 - Overclockers Forums VID Mod for Core 2 Q9550??? I'm pretty sure my user name and system specs gives a good idea of why I can't simply tweak through the BIOS . Believe me, I plan on buying a new case and motherboard in the future, but until then let's connect those pins!!!

Sorry I wish I had an answer for you but I don't, hopefully someone here does and they chime in here with it!
The Q9550 was one of my first builds and a favorite too!

Oh and welcome to the forum

I highly doubt there will be a mod to OC your Q9550. The only chip I've ever seen a mod for were some 3 core AMD chips to unlock the fourth core. Your best bet would be to just get a new motherboard. And if there is and no one has found it yet I doubt there will be anyone willing to research for it, especially since that chip's life is over.

    And Google "pin mod q9550":

Yea, I have no experience with PIN mods on chips.
Wish I had more info for you.

Oh was it the one I posted above? I had actually found that and will probably use it on my Q6600 when I get a replacement XD

I can't find it, but there is this: https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...gh-for-idiots/" Wow, that's a lot of trial and error to tinker around with! I tried the bsel for the q9650 (two side-by-side pins by the arch) and it did nothing. I recall someone claiming it worked on one of those forums, yet he showed no proof or illustration. So, if pin mod depends on your board, I don't see why it would work on one chip and no the other. In that case, I think it would depend more on the chip (cpu) than the motherboard?

It depends on how the mobo identifies the cpu

That makes sense, seeing that the Q6600 (the one that came OEM with my mobo) is a year earlier than the Q9550 that I currently have installed.

The Q6600 is two C2D's on one die, so it isn't for certain if the mod would have the same effect. If it were me, I'd spare my processor and just get a new board.

I would too, but then I would also need to buy a new case, and who knows if all the other parts would be compatible.

You have to find out if the board in your case is mATX or ATX. Once you figure that out, just grab a new board with the same form factor and you're laughing. No sense spending money if you don't need to.

Try BTX... Remember "dude, I got a dell! " It is going to be unnecessarily expensive no matter what I do.
