    I replaced all 4 stock case fans with Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F, I also reversed the top two and made them intakes...did not make much sense but it made a huge diff on my gpu temps...I also added two additional 120 intake fans on the hdd cages and added an antec spot fan pointing directly at the NB. so I now have 6 120mm fans, a spot fan and the cpu fan...geeezzz...so long to the "silence" part of the cosmos. I still blame the case design/air flow and I have tried many different fan setups, positive and negative pressure....also removed the crappy vga duct. And no sooner to I buy all new fans to go with my new case AKA easy bake oven...they come out with a new and improved? Cosmos S edition....
    Anyway I will post some before and after case pics when I get a chance.
    Sweet man! Those are pretty similar to my temps aside from my CPU being cooler and my GPU being on fire. I think you should be alright at load also. Can you post a link to that antec spot fan?

    Edit: I just noticed you have a similar graphics card. I'm curious what brand is yours? Yours seems to run about 10C cooler than mine. I got the factory OC MSI one but I had to RMA it because it was being on the extreme glitchy side. Also, what drivers are you using?

    The 3870 x2 is Sapphire..It ran at 60c idle before all my fan mods, I think the biggest change in temp took place when I reversed the airflow in the case from negative to positive pressure, it seems to force feed air through the video card..Using cat 8.2 drivers..

    The Antec spot fan I picked up locally at Best Buy..here is a link to the product on Antecs site = http://www.antec.com/ec/productDetails.php?ProdID=75018

    I will post more info later as I begin to OC things we will see how the temps fair

    Before additional fan mods...

    I was just taking another look and comparing the Maximus Formula to the Maximus Extreme (not sure if anyone has already said this) and I noticed you Formula folks have a lot more room between gfx card slots.

    On my Extreme, were I to have two 3870x2s in my setup some day... they'd have about 2mm of breathing room which looks to me like a cooling nightmare.

    Those temps look normal for air cooling and don't forget the HD3780x2 is a dual GPU. Of couse it will dump alot of heat into the case.
    Have you guys considering remove the spare expansion slot covers for the hot air to escape?....or add on a PCI slot fan?

    @rotaryguy; nice clean setup

    Ideas:
    1. replace with a lower profile cooler
    2. get a bigger case
    Going for like a 8" Sub cover, like a nice JBL or something. The case already a huge vent, I just enlarged it, case was too expensive to just buy another. I'll post up once it gets covered, its going to look factory.

    What software are you using to get your temp readings? I just opened up Pc Probe II and my temps are,

    CPU = 19 C
    MB = 30 C
    NB = 43 C
    SB = 37 C

    Would these be correct and should I have installed that little fan that came with the board? Or is that just for water cooled systems? Air cooling isn't passive right?

    Really unbelievable how neat you installed everything, very impressive. I'm very embarrassed since my case is so small I couldn't get such an effect.

    you can use CoreTemp (just to monitor the cpu's core) or Everest. I had the link in page 1, post #6 in this thread. This pro will monitor all cores, MB, NB, SB, GPU...etc. it's accurate too.

    @Qunicy; can't wait to see the mod pic.

    I'm gonna have to say you should use Everest. Everest monitors pretty much everything you have in you computer and each temp/voltage/usage is put into the systray in it's own little box that you can color coordinate so that at a glance you know what's going on without having to tab over to PC Probe or have it on top of all your windows. I can play Crysis in windowed mode and see all my temps without tabbing. My 2p.

    I use Everest, I have also used PC Probe and they match what everest shows but I really like the way you can pick what you want to see in Everest and have it sit in the task bar, and no you should not mount the fan unless you are water cooling...according to the manual anyway.

    I never have this type of ram before so I can't really tell you much about it.

    Have you try it with 2 sticks?....to see how the ram can handle overclocking. Sometime when you filled all 4 DIMM slots, it don't OC well.
    If you have no luck to go any higher than you have now, then try to use lower timing such as 4-4-4-12 instead of stock timining.
    A tighter timing and lower frequences perform on par with higher frequences an timing ram.

    May Smith can give you some tip on this. He managed to queeze his Mushkin 8000 to 1200+mhz, but his ram are different brand though.

    Talking

    The 4 sticks may very well be the problem. I'm running 1133 (5 5 5 15) with ease.

    Well.. I learned some things in the last 2 days. I was trying to get my rig stable, but kept getting black screened, which was weird since my video card was not overclocked. OCCT and memtest could run all night, but still weird crashes. TURNS OUT, the catalyst drivers 8.1 and above dont like hot cards, and the stock bios on mine throttled the fans to keep it at 90c which just wasn't flying. I flashed my gBIOS to the sapphire fanfix, and voila... 65c at load.

    The results...

    what version of catalyst are you using now, 8.2?
    v 8.3 will release sometime next week or two, it will fix the Xfire problem. You should go pick up another 3870 to do xfire, this card is dropping in price.

    yup 8.2

    I do plan to grab another 3870 when finances are more available. I'm a student and i just got out of debt from buying the computer! But yeah that was one of the reasons I went for a maximus in the first place, Xfire!

    I am new to prime95...do I just run the torture test?
    I am at 3.6 on my q6600 and it seems to be doing well so far. I did manually set the voltage on the NB as auto mode set it to 1.62V. I lowered it to 1.55..just plugged in something as I really have no idea exactly where I need to be there but the lower the better.
    I cant seem to do anything with my mem besides setting the 1066..seems like if I raise it or change any settings manually it wont boot period but I am just getting started so its prob me, I was hoping I could set it higher though.
