My NB/SB temps are a bit high, ill try to place a fan on/close to my NB heatsink because i dont really want to remove my heatsink to use some better thermal paste since it seems to be pretty hard to do.

I tried to set my ram @ 1066 and did many different benchmark but i didnt see any performance gain so i set it back to 800.

I figured i would post this here since i gathered so much information from this thread to config my new rig :P

WOW , that a bad ass MOBO, hopefully the heatsink pipe (thermal paste cement) work better than the previous versions.

    I'm droooooooooolinnnnnnnnnnng....need a bib!
Wondering when Asus is going to release them?....it's about time it includes the X-fi with the Maximus.

    BTW, welcome Pewpew...

Hey guys, new to the boards and wanted to say hi and its awesome to see a Formula Club (bumber stickers? lol). Anyway, just got my new Formula in and was hoping someone might be able to help me with the Tweaker settings to get this to 3.6 - 4.0 with the QX9650

Also wanted to know if anyone is familier with the 1102 BIOS? My last Formula had 0907 and when I saw 1102 I checked out ASUS site and see nothing at all on it... needless to say I know the 0907 was stable so I reverted back to that one for now. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Max, go back one page (28) see the my discussion with Banner_kc about a setting for Qx9650. There're not many member on here have QX9650, so we won't be able to share the exactly settings for QX9650. You might have to use the Q6600's settings as a guide and work it from there.

Banner_kc has a problem with his OC and I haven't hear it from him lately if he solve the problem with my settings. You can try and let me know.

DETON, Just as a matter of interest, you have your ram temps monitored on opt temp, what temps are you getting? What sinks/cooling do you use? I ask because I see a 3 degree difference with the west bank (away from fans) being higher typically 27 and 30deg C Idle. My sensors are just taped to the side of the heatsinks with insulating tape...Yours?

Next month, good to hear that but can't afford to upgrade the board just yet, the CPU will be first before I replace the mobo though. I'm waiting for Q9550 or 1600fsb CPUs to become available. With the new CPU upgrade it will last me for awhile before I rebuild a new rig, this is will be the Nahalem one, new boad/CPU.

One thing I don't like about that Maximus II, the daughter FX-Xfi board, it's all-in-one. I perfer the X-Fi build in the Mobo instead.

I don't have an extra sensor for the ram, so I have no idea what the temp is. I have a good case air flow and I was also used Ram fans so I didn't worry much about the ram temp. Now I'm using Reaper Hpc ram, it has heatpipe/fins (fans removed), all I know it's warm to touch it but I will measure it for you and let you know later.

well I don't know what to say, you may have to RMA the board but don't tell them that you've flashed the bios from a different board.

@ Banner_kc . Try upping cpu pll to 1.62-1.64 and fsbt to 1.42-1.44 and take NB way up maybe to around 1.53 (watch your temps though if it does post) you can always bring each down later once you resolve the posting issue.
Now for the disclaimer: I have only used q6600. My suggestion is only because I found such a big difference between my first and second formula motherboards

If I run my NB at 1.57v I get temps around 39deg C ambient 23 so I guess you need to get more cooling on there (go back a page or two to the comment about spot cooling). when you say working good are you now at a higher clock? if so step the NB volts down 1 at a time til you lose it then back up a couple

Had a look around :I would bring your attention to 2 articles:-

    http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=3184&p=6
read the comments about loadline calibration and required volts

    http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3172&p=10
this page, however, has somewhat conflicting content

hope you can find something of use with these.

My sensors are just taped to the side of the heatsinks with insulating tape...Yours?
    Ok, I did a quick measure my ram temp by attached one of my themral sensor to the ram heatpipe and the result;
2.10v @ 1066mhz, normal operation (no 100% load) but over 1hr running and the temp was 45c.

Default A Tall Order For My Rig

I must say Maximus is a good board for overclocking and the Reaper HPC as well. I finally pushed my Q6600 to 4Ghz with 8Gig of memory @ 1066mhz. I never thought I will be able to pull it off with 8Gig of mem but I did it , no Prime95 thought. It's still hard to push the Ram to 1200mhz. I didn't bother it because I know it's not going to be stable.

    Here's the screening @ 4Ghz

As I mentioned this before, the sweet spot for Q6600 is 3.6Ghz, at this speed the cores load (100%) temp is around 65c, it's equal 50c to 55c diode temp.

3.6Ghz with 1mb superPI scored at mid 14s
4.00Ghz with 1mb superPI scored at 13ish second

So, with 400mhz more and you only get 1s faster, definitely not worth it when the temp hit the roof at 4Ghz setting.

Thanks for that, You will appreciate I'm a good deal happier now because mine seems to be being sufficiently cooled by the case fans and now, when the need arises I can use one of the temp probes elsewhere.
