once the tests are passed we are at the stage where the QPI clock ratio, memory ratio, and memory timings, the QPI/VTT voltage, IOH Core voltage and the memory voltage are all set so we can proceed to the cpu overclock

Now we can turn off turbo, set the CPU clock ratio to x25 and drop the bclk back to 150 for a speed of 3750.

From now on you MUST run cpu-z, realtemp and LinX together and each test should be of at least 3 runs duration all the time keeping a close eye on your temperatures the maximum for which is ~85 C on the cores.

Run the first test and if all goes well increase the bclk by 10 and run again. if not then increase the vcore by 0.025v and run again. I recommend that the final steps be 6 and 5 and 5 increase on the bclk.

Your cpu fans need to run at maximum. You should stop if your temps go too high, if you reach target or if you reach 1.4v cpu volts.

I expect temperatures to be your problem. If this is the case then you should set you target bclk to be 168 which should run cooler as a function of both speed and voltage

    Bios settings :-

    cpu clock - x25
    bclk - 160
    QPI - 36
    uncore - 20
    d ram timing - quick
    d ram command rate - 1t
LLC - enabled ( there is no level to choose enabled/disabled)
vcore - auto (seems to crash when i select a volt)
    qpi/vtt - 1.215

    d ram timing - quick
    d ram command rate - 1t
LLC - enabled ( there is no level to choose enabled/disabled)
vcore - auto (seems to crash when i select a volt)< lets look at this first.... Try selecting cpu volts at 1.375v in bios and see what cpu-z reads when idle then, we will try dropping the voltage from that point in small steps using a single run of LinX to watch what happens.... we need to try to get the core temps below 90 and reducing the voltage should help because auto usually gives it too much
    qpi/vtt - 1.215
    dram - 1.500
Take a look at the comments above and ensure your cpu fan is on full

The cpu volts sequence should be 1.375, 1.350,1.325,1.300 etc until it hangs or crashes when running LinX

This is the alternate way of finding your overclock voltage/speed

Now that you have temps where you need them try the other way....

leave the voltage at bios 1.275 (cpu-z = 1.248) and try to increase bclk by a small margin ....say 2 or if you are ambitious 4.

You may need to add some voltage back again to do this if it fails on current cpu volts.

Keep an eye on those temps though... something like 92,88,89,84 will have to be your limit.

You are at a point where small steps is good.

I am guessing a bit here but about 168 bclk and 4.2Ghz is about where I expect you to end up with your current cooling

hi grumps thanks for reply mate, sorry to have left you seeing all those previous results, just wanted to give you an idea on where im at and whats happening, yep iv left vcore at that and raised the bclk to 165 and bsod, major disapoinetment, i raised the vcore to 1.2875 and did another linx test and passed straight away, i then tried to be ambitious and raised the bclk again to 170 to give me 4.25 with vcore at 1.2875 and did a linx test and again after 2 mins in it hanged then bsod again, so now iv been back in to bios and raised the vcore to 1.3000 in the hope that it will pass. my qpi/vtt is still at 1.215 could i poss change this and have vcore lowered ? or is it all about the vcore now. thanks so much for your help and insight into o/clocking mate as well, iv learned a lot over these past few days and your help has been truely magic !!

Stick with everything locked in except vcore for now. It may be possible to adjust other stuff later but that is a fine tuning thing.

You are very near your limit now so keep a close eye on those temps as either more volts (as you have seen) or more speed will make things hotter.... and you are adding both

It helps to see your results by the way so more of that is good too

thanks for reply turbo mate, tried your settings and it breezed it, i upped the bclk a little to 202 and its passed a 50 run test of linx so im more than happy now

between you and grumps iv learnt a lot and managed to get a stable, overclocked system of over 4ghz

    core speed: 4241.87
    multiplier: 21
bus speed: 202 (201.99 in cpuz)
    QPI: 3635.89

so thanks again guys, iv cracked the 4ghz and no longer an overclocking virgin haha
