    Default Need help overclocking (virgin)

I am a complete noob when it comes to this kind of stuff. I Just build this new computer a few months ago and really would like some help overclocking to boost my gaming performance. I don't know what kind of info I need to give you guys to help me out but here are my specs.

    Power Supply Seasonic M12II 620
    CPU Intel i5-4670K
    Heatsink Noctua 6 NH-D14
    Motherboard ASUS Z87-A
    Memory 8GB G.Skill DDR3 1600
    Graphics Card ASUS GTX 760
Hard Drive Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black
    SSD SAMSUNG 840 EVO 128GB

I really would like to overclock to what I could get out of this machine. If anyone could help walk me through doing so would be great.

I hope one of the guys can help you on this as I won't be around enough this weekend to be of any assistance.... But it is not so hard to oc one of these compared to some of the earlier cpu's.

The key to overclocking these is to keep the heat as low as you can. Yes it may be possible to run hot at 90 but the reality is that these cpu's will slow themselves down if they get too hot. If you aim around the 4.5-4.6 Ghz mark then take a good look at your temperatures you should be good.

You may find however that your games don't seem much faster if at all.

    First off, welcome aboard!

Secondly, be sure to fill out your system stats in the User CP area that way we always know what hardware you're working with... fewer questions to have to ask in the future x-D.

Rather than trying to actually type everything out, I am going to go ahead and direct you to this guide that was posted by Linus from Linus Tech Tips. I've watched this video more than a few times to make sure I was familiar with all of the little Intel nuances of overclocking. It gives you all of the details you will need to overclock as a home user, and it is even demonstrated with an asus motherboard so the BIOS screenshots will look very familiar for you.

If you have any further questions keep on posting here. Sooner rather than later someone will get back to you I'm sure :-).

That's one excellent guide. I'm sure he will able to hit 4.2-4.4 GHz without the problem with this Noctua Cooler (NH-D14).

First thing you want to start off with is check what vcore is required for 4.5ghz as a baseline, its about 1.20-1.25v for 4.5ghz

just put manual the vcore at 1.2, and Multi at 4.3ghz, nothing else, run itb test or linx and watch the temps.
let linx run at all mem, if it passes 2 runs, then up the Multi, and test again, if it dont pass the up the vcore, but watch the temps.

Been so busy with work and other things the last few months have not have a chance to mess around with any of this. I did watch those videos a few times and am still lost. If somebody would be kind enough to maybe skype me and walk me through overclocking would be mountains of greatful. I would like to achieve at least 4.2. I think that's reasonable with my parts.
