Default Need help, BIOS not being applied

I'm new to this forum and to overclocking. I spent about a month researching what I needed to change, issues, and so on so forth. When i finally decided to dive into BIOS, I made my changes as necassary and rebooted. Ran prime, cpu-z and coretemps, and after seeing the system stable I realized it was still on stock configs. I have been in and outta bios several times and my system wont apply the new settings. I hit f-10 saved and exited nothing is changing. The bios read out current and new settings, but the new settings never make it over to current column if that makes sense. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!!!

    I'm running:

    evga 780i mobo
    q9550 (liquid cooled)
    8g ddr2
    Vista 64
    2 x 9800gx2

first build, working on a second but I want this one up and running first

I don't own nvidia board but have you try update the bios to the latest?
It's sound like the bios won't save the changes.

And what settings can you see when your BIOS POST appears ( are they new ones or default ones)??

If you mean when I save and exit and go back in "new settings" show what I want it out, "current" shows the stock config, cpu-z shows stock config as well. I save and exit nothing ever changes, its confusing the hell outta me

Or did I miss understand the question?

ok, so you use the latest bios.
Can you try flash back to older version to see if it cure it? I think there's a bug in the bios that is won't let you save the new settings.

at this point I don't think it's going get worst that this, it doesn't hurt to try it. It might solve your problem. If you can flash back to the original version (or workable versions) then no worry about it.

Hmm, just another wacky idea. Check you clock in BIOS and try to change it. If it will come back to default setting this might mean that CMOS battery is dead. Maybe thats why....

I'll try that, but I might have figured out what my problem is. In bios, cant remember which categorie it was, but it listed

"resources controlled by" auto or manual

Do I need to set this to manual, I havent been able to find an answer on this for my particular MoBo, most seem to use the 750 or 680, so finding exact instructions have been difficult. I just wanted to double check before I switch it to manual

Also, can someone tell me what intel speedstep and limit maxval cpuid shoudl be and why?

    Thanks again for everyones help

Yeah you should dissable speedstepping first when you trying to find a stable overclocking setting.
I usually enable it after my overclock is stable but most people like to dissable it permanetly.

Here are good popular stability programs
    Prime95 - quad core support
Orthos - dual core support (haven't use it for a long time, you might find a updated version?)
    OCCT - quad core support

each program stress the CPU differently, example if you passed Prime95. It doesn't mean it will pass Orthos or OCCT
