I will do just that, thank you deton.
Got pix of everything.lol and put all my settings in a notepad just to post em here.
I guess I'd better find out about any Vista services to turn off before overclocking. I just did a fresh install and have very little on my hard drives.
I Vista and 3 games on the Crive, which is my RAID0 and all other programs went to my Drive non-RAID . anything to do with Vista, games, and hardware goes to C:. Chat clients,
testing, defraggers, cleaning, etc, goes to D:.
Not sure if this is the way to do it, but all go to the ADD & Remove Programs, and everything seems to be working fine.

[quote=Deton;24022]@ Neoxedok; Like you said you're not heavily on gaming then you should get the PSU first, second is CPU and GRFX is last.
You can get a good 750W PSU for under $110USD, like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341011

yeah you convinced me to make the psu a priority last nite- but i dont think 750 will be enough for 2 4870s in crossfire plus 4 western digital 640 gb drives in raid 0(i want that -not sure if i need it ) plus 2 more harddrives. its gonnna take me awhile to get the system together the way i want it. eventually i will be playing games- i came from a dell 4550 demension 3.06 ht 4x agp- what i got right now sounds old to most but comapred to what i had its farrrrrrr better and after i am finished with the quad( holding off til intel price drops) another reason to get the psu now.

i was leaning towards the ultra x3 850 modular psu. ??

i'd love to know how to overclock my memory i am a noob.

processor isnt so hard to overclock

i have the option in the bios to run it at 1040mhz but when i select that exit and save it wont post.

what i have is corsair xms ddr2 800. here the link to it

no offense but i been wanting a modular psu for a long time. theres always ebay.
then theres the future 5870s ? 6870s? what i get now will have a impact on future card power requirements dont wanna have to buy a new psu agian if i dont have to.

my goal when i bought the asus maximus II formula was to run a quadcore at 4 ghz @ 2000 fsb
and have pretty good graphics capability. if i can get close to that i will be happy

Yes you should put main programs or games that run off the harddrive on C: drive, you can use the non RAID drive as your backup drive to store all your personal data and files.

you need image server services such as imageshack.us or photobucket.com

the PC & PowerCooling 750w is enough to power a Q9650 overclocked to 4Ghz and all other hardware that you need and still have some head room left, unless you use two HD4870X2 then you need at least 1k PSU.

Your current RAM is a good memory, you're probably can get it up to 1000Mhz plus, when you OC the RAM you need to increase its voltage and loosing its timing.

Modular PSU is easier with cable management, just use only the cable that needed. However, the modular PSU cost more than non-modular models. IMO, if you have mid tower case then the modular one are more suitable.

yeah cost more if i manage my money right next fri i can upgrade both the psu and videocard both will put me in a better postion with the cpu i dont mind paying a little extra if its quality. thats the main reason i didnt go with a cheaper motherboard you get what u pay for these days more often than not most people come out on the short end of that stick.

    current video card sapphire x1650pro

    next fri hopefully will have

    ultra x3 850 watt psu
    visiontek 3870 oc 512

i am hoping those two upgrades will be alot better.

i am hoping those two upgrades will be alot better.
definitely 3870 is better than x1650pro but how much is 3870 now?
because you can get 4850 for $150 - $170 and if you want to step down a little than you can get 4830 for around $115. That's something to think about it, you will have the latest generation card not the yesterday.

In PC hardware, we're trying to get the latest that we can afford if we can because they getting obsolete (the new, the better coming out very often) very quickly after 6-15 months after they leased.

these are visiontek the only brand best buy or circuit city carries in ati cards

yeah i looked at the 3870 oc 512 mb ddr4 $127 was on sale back up to $149
    4650 512 mb ddr2 $129
    4670 1 gb ddr3 $149
4850 512 mb ddr3 169 the onl other 4800 series card bestbuy or cc carries

i have 2 local options best buy and circuit city

the ultra x3 i can get at tigerdirect for $159

i was thinking the 3870 ddr4 is better than the 4650 ddr2 and the 4670 ddr3 or am i wrong bout that???
i know the 4850 is the best out of that lot and if i wasnt poor i would do much better.

i need to stay as close to my $300 limit

i had my pentium d up to 4.540 ghz tonite stable and ran 3dmark 06 kicked it back down to 4.335 ghz since there wasnt any difference in my scores. that time didnt touch the memory settings at all and i was 50 mhz shy of 1000 mhz.

i hope the psu takes care of the cpu pll overvoltage 2.31v right now.

I'm sure you can get a 4850 on eBay for lesser than $150 but it take time to find one.
So, it is good to get a good PSU now then shop around for the video card. I'm sure you will have more money save up by the time you find the right card.

Of course DDR4 faster than DDR2 or DDR3 but you should compare with the shader and the new processor technology.

Yes, you won't see much different in 100 - 200mhz. So just find the sweet spot for you CPU which it give you the lowest temp.

    Default New MIIF owner... hello!!

I just received most of my new system parts the other day and have them installed. Still waiting on HDD / VID / and Vista64, should come on Monday.

So I'll be here a bit reading up on everything before I fire it up!! Wish I found this site before ordering everything but hey now is better than never!!

Does anybody see anything that stands out with my System specs that may be an issue?

Wargamerz congrats on your new purchase and welcome to PUREOC!
You rig specs is looking good, however did you check Asus site for the compatible memory for the MIIF board first before you order the ram?

This is the most common problem with Maximus boards, incompatible RAM you won't find out until you start overclocking it.

Over all you will have a good time overclock this board. MIIF is one of the best P45 board out there. BTW, if you notice the NB temp reach 50c at idle or higher then you do need to install the washers, this is a guide in the first page of this thread.

    Hi Denton,

Yes I did check the QVL and made sure it was on the list. The only thing I wasn't sure on was that the 4G kit wasn't listed but the 2G kit was.
They both have the same model # except for the size diff. so hopefully it will be fine.

BTW, you did an awesome job on all the info available here, Thanks!!

Then you will be fine, the size of memory wouldn't affect it.
You're welcome, don't forget to take a look at overclock bios settings table samples. There are a setting sample for your E8400 and few recent posts regarding the unstability with E8400, please read them and digest it. It will help you when overclocking times come.
