    Ok, you only have 2 sticks of 4Gb PC6400. You are ok here.
    Ok. I'm glad I'm good here but I tought I've bought a PC8500

    I need you to post your complete bios settings hopefully I can identify the problem. I think you have some settings are wrong.

    I'm running everything on Auto. I only disabled the Floppy Disk, Lan 2. IEEE 1394 and Legacy USB. I can take some pictures of the BIOS Settings if you like it. Anything to get this working fine

    About the heatpipe; did you replace stock paste with after market one?
    Yes. I did.

    check if there any gap between the NB/SB and the sinks, you might have it uneven mount.
    I will check and recheck everything by tomorrow morning (it's 2:00 AM here already)

    By the way, did you add on washers for the NB only or all of them. I would do all of them but some people just do the NB only.
    I didn't saw anything about washers. Could you please give me the proper link? I use the Maximus Formula Heatpipe Guide because I couldn't find a Maximus II Formula Heatpipe Guide

    Thanks again

    @Johnny; actually your ram can go up to 1066mhz, it's overclock enhanded, just check the CPU-Z.

    Sorry, I've read so many post and I'm kinda lost track. What exactly is your problem?
    You were saying everything was on Auto and you have a problem with the board?

    Ok...you're not the first one didn't read this thread from begining. Heatpipe removal in the first page of this thread. MIIF heatpipe is different than the Maximus Formula board.

    If you redo it make sure give it a good cleanning the old paste, add on washers, don't forget to remove the NB heatsink (the small one sitting on top the heatpipe). Give it a good cleanning as well, Asus used some kinda stacky adhesive paste here but you will have no problem to remove it, no need heat gun or blow dryer.

    You were saying everything was on Auto and you have a problem with the board?

    Yes. Everything is on Auto and my problem started as soon I built the computer. It was hanging at Init ROM. I've noticed that pressing the Power reset button the system starts correctly however after two days the system began to hang at Det DRAM and only starts after several resets and/or Power On/Off. Sometimes I need to reset the BIOS to be able to boot the computer. there is also the double start weird thing. When I press the start button the system double starts.

    One thing I think is good is that when I've managed to get into Windows I can let the computer on for days without any issue. It is pretty fast and stable and that's why I think it's some kind of BIOS configuration and not hardware fault.

    NOTE: I'm not an overclocker and also I'm not trying to overclock anything but if I need to overclock to make this whole thing work and stop the problem I'll do it. Maybe this mobo needs overclock to work fine and If this is the case could you please give me some BIOS settings guide which I'll be glad to test it.

    Hello again Deton,

    I redid the Heatpipe mod now using the correct one for the MIIF located in the first page of this thread. Here is the results at idle:

    Yesterday

    SB = 61
    NB = 56
    CPU = 40
    MB = 46

    Today

    SB = 53
    NB = 49
    CPU = 34
    MB = 43

    Everything is fine now right?

    The Det Dram and Init ROM issues are still there along with the double start weird problem and I would like your help to try fix it. I can take some pictures of my BIOS however everything is on AUTO (maybe AUTO is not working as it should?) and I only disabled the Floppy Disk, Lan 2. IEEE 1394 and Legacy USB. Please let me know if you want me to take the BIOS screens.

    One thing I think is a good signal is that when I've managed to get into Windows I can let the computer on for days without any issue. It is pretty fast and stable and that's why I think it's some kind of BIOS configuration and not hardware fault.

    NOTE: I'm not an overclocker and also I'm not trying to overclock anything but if I need to overclock to make this whole thing work and stop the problem I'll do it. @ Johnny; stuck at Int Rom or Det Ram then it's a memory issues but you did try different vesions of the bios and it is still happenning, right?

    Do you have different brand of memory to try out?

    On the other hand it could be a bad board too.

    @ Jacky; yes mostly voltages, take a look at overcloked samples table. If you overclock the memory than you do need to increase its voltage as well.

    As I mentioned Q6600, 4Ghz is pretty hard to get it stable, keep a close eye on its temp.

    @ Johnny; go to page 1 and look at overclocked samples table, there's a sample for your CPU. Try it if you have any luck. Your ram may different than the sample then set it setting according to its specification.

    i tried the sample no luck with that.
    and no luck with 3.9ghz now im back at 3.645ghz stable.

    the problem i think is at the rated FSB bcus this mobo supports up to 1600 fsb. so at 3.6 my fsb is 1600mhz thats why its good. but going to 4ghz my rated fsb goes up to 17xx . is there any way to lower the rated FSB but increase the cpu mhz?

    the difference is the 1/2 multiplier; q9650 is capable to OC up to 4.5ghz if you're good overclocking, and q9550 can get up to 4ghz.

    if you have extra $60 to spend to the q9650 then go for it but q9550 is the best buy one.

    Hello guys,
    gz for the maximus 2 support posts.
    I have the (same) problem with high NB temperatures. 50C idle temperature on NB. When I play games the NB reaches 90 deg and the PC closes to protect. It's very annoying for a new - not overclocked pc.
    I just want to ask if anyone knows if ASUS is going to correct these problems in the future mobos models of maximus 2 formula???

    My pc tower is now open and I've put a giant fan to "hit" straight to the NB area (plus the 3x120 fans the tower has itself). The NB temperatures doesnt fall under 50 deg on idle. Really sucks

    @ Pappasi, welcome to PureOc!
    The NB temp issues is common with MIIF board due to one piece heatpipe. In your case, I think you really have poor contacting surfaces, 90 degree while gaming is too extreme. You need to add on some washers to the screws, it will helps heatpipe to have better contact.

    Go back to the first page of this thread take a look at the post I talked about washer mod. And what kind of the case do you have?

    Thanks Deton for your welcome and your fast answer. My case is a coolermaster RC690. I did read the page for washer mod but the problem is that if I do anything to the mobo I loose the guarantee unfortunately (that was my local asus dealer words). The thing is that at the beggining I was able to play anything (crysis max det 1600x1050) with no problems and now even WOW overheats the NB. If I close the case I have 30-40 minutes max gaming time.I didn't make any change in my hardware all that period and I havent done overclocking yet. I havent change the bios settings from the defaults. Inside the case the temp is 25 C (from onboard nzxt temp monitor) and 57 for NB and 45 for SB (both idle). The rests are ok (cpu 29 and mobo 27). All my problems started when I installed GTA4 before one week.I dont know if that has something to do with the problem, but i dont think so...I m an average pc user. Before that for 3 months I have been playing all games with no problems.
    I will post photos temperatures from probe 2 program if its allowed (havent read all the terms yet :P )
    Sorry for the big post...
