    Default Maximus II Formula Club

Two days ago I was navigating through this forum and ended up on that thread BSOD Codes (which i saved it for knowledge).
About the NB / SB temperatures, I've put thermal pad on the SB, and new one on the 16 CPU Phase Power. I've opted for thermal pad on the SB to make sure it makes the best contact with the heatsink (I've put it very thin (0.5milimeters). With more height, it could lift the NB, and thus not making the best contact with the chipset.

You've maked a very good thread and posts about the NB/SB cooling issue ! 1 year ago when I've brought M2F, it was because of that post that I changed the thermal pad and thermal compound and added washers! Very nice indeed.

If the problem persists, next thing I'll do is change the PSU for my old one. If that doesn't work, I'm going to really test my E8400 to see if the BSOD's are gone.
    I'll keep this forum updated.
    Keep on

So, 1 day plus the last post, I've changed my Intel QX9770 to an E8400. It seems to me that the problem is related to voltage ( although is set to AUTO ) or damaged CPU.
Its been almost 1 week, and no BSOD's. Just one in an entire week: 0x124 , so I'll need to study on how much vcore to go on E8400 at 3.6GHz to have FSBRAM 1:1 .

Perhaps you guys could give a hint on E8400 vcore at 3.6GHz? Appreciated.

It is good to know that it isn't Maximus failing. But is really a headache to think its QX9770 malfunctioning... Any one seen or heard one dying?
Going to test this (E8400) good, and then get back to mess with vcore on extreme to check if its rockin! or not.

ASUS Maximus II Formula Modified BIOS Release

If anyone else is still using this great motherboard I have put together a modified BIOS that might be of some use to you, it contains updates to some of the built in option ROMS that have fallen out of date since the last official ASUS release (2302). The updates I have included are the last ones that will successfully work with these motherboards, the updates included are detailed below:

Intel Matrix Storage ICH10R RAID0/1/5 (SATA Controller)
ROM updated from v8.0.0.1038 to v10.1.0.1008

Note: This ROM also supports TRIM for solid date drives under RAID0, all credit for the modification to the Intel option ROM used in this modified BIOS release goes to CPL0 aka Dufus. You must ensure you are running the latest Intel RST driver otherwise the TRIM commands will not pass through to the RAID array.

    Marvell 88SE6121 (SATA Controller)
ROM updated from 1.1.0.L70d to 1.1.0.L75

    Marvell Yukon 88E8056 (Ethernet Controller)
ROM updated from v6.15.1.3 to v6.68.1.3

This modified BIOS is used at your own risk! - DOWNLOAD

Once you have flashed your motherboard you can confirm you are using the new BIOS by looking for the following "Modified" tag when the board powers up (assuming you have the splash screen/boot image disabled).

Thanks for posting the modified BIOS! I'm planning to test it once I've received my pair of 850 PRO's. I'm not able to justify upgrading my mobo and CPU when I've yet to find any software that cripples it

If it works for you then stick with it. The only thing is your falling behind in PCIe 3.0 (not a big issue at the moment), Sata 6GBps (850s will not be close to max speed on 3Gbps sata) and USB 3.0.

Yeah, I'll have to look into making the jump at some point next year. I've seen bench comparisons with the 840 Pro on SATA-II and III. The sequential read and write was almost double the speed.

Yeah that is a lot of untapped performance sitting on the table. Just sucks you have to spend even more to get to use it. However jumping from say the 775 socket to a Z97 board and chip will be a huge performance boast across the board. Moving from 775 to X99 will be even more of a boost.

    Hi,

I am still using this amazing motherboard. Tried the BIOS you posted. Everything works perfect, did not encounter any issues.
    Thank you!

Hi everyone, I am sorry for bumping this old thread but its only one I can find online!
I am trying to overclock my Q9550 E0, got maximus 2 formula with latest bios and 2X2 ocz reaper hpc 1066 Mhz ram sticks.

I found a post from this page:
    Maximus II Formula Club

After applying the settings after passing bios screen, i see this picture:

After the line comes to end pc restarts without any blue screen or anything. After I put back together everything back to "normal" my 3,6ghz setup, windows loads without that screen without problems and pc works normally...
Please help, btw I am from Europe if that means anything!

Welcome to PureOC Bass3, we will do what we can to help. One of the guys around here knows about overclocking this chip but he is at work. He will post soon as he can. To make things easier can you fill in a few blanks for use.

    What OS are you running?
What cooling System are you using?
What core voltage was the 3.6OC using?
Any other info you think may be helpful.

    Thanks

I am using Windows 7 64 bit, latest BIOS on MBO
Hyper T4 ( I will replace this with water cooling in 10 days after my paycheck!)
    CPU Voltage 1.31875
    FSB Freq 430
FSB Strap to North Bridge 333 MHz
    DRAM Freq- DDR2-861MHz

Everything else is on auto except CE1 Stepping!

Also here is a picture of my system with a CPU-Z and HWMonitor, my max temps under full load in prime are around 55-60, except for core 0 which always goes up to 70 dunno why.

I fixed core 0 and 1 by adding +20mV on them now I am at 4ghz where I wanted to be and running prime95 for last 25 minutes without errors!

Thank you guys for this club and your forums, couldn't have it done without a good reading of 60 pages .

Edit: I will removed the big picture, here is http://valid.x86.fr/49kpnl, I had some erros on OCCT and solved them by adding +40 mV to all cores!

thank you once again for this club

Im glad you figured it out. Sorry Kenny never stopped by to assist. He has been insanely busy lately. Stick around to post some pics or benches of your rig.

Hey guys, I've been trying to get over 500 fsb this weekend, i always get stuck around 492,3,4, 495 never boots up or i get freeze screen or bluescreen no matter how much voltage i put and i use formula to calculate stuff.

Any suggestions or advices? here is my current setup @ 4ghz:

    8.5
    fsb 471
    CPU clock skew: normal
    NB skew: normal

    Dram: 943 Mhz

    all disabled down
    except
    AI clock twister to moderate.

    cpu v: 1,4
    cpu pll: 1,51325
    FSB termination: 1,4
    NB v: 1,418

    +90
    +50
    +90
    +50
    NB +50

    LLC enabled, rest disabled.
