Yes choppy is normal...it is trying to do video using cpu processing (at least that is what I've always believed)

when i run the cpu test on 3dmark06, is it supposed to be super choppy? it will freeze for like 2 or 3 sec during some of the parts just on the cpu test. gpu test goes very smooth.

Interesting as I had always wondered myself about the stuttering , but not having run it in quite sometime kinda forgot about it . Happens to us old timers
