Default OCZ Agility 3 240GB SSD

OCZ Technology are at the forefront of the SSD market and have been for several generations now, offering a wide range of drives. Whether the user needs a SATA based model, PCIe based, consumer, enterprise, value... even USB 3.0 for top performance on the go, OCZ have it covered and in the past few months we have seen some great performance from them in the form of the RevoDrive and Vertex 3 ranges. These drives offered us industry leading performance but as always this comes with a price.

Today we are looking at a drive which OCZ hope will find a slightly more value orientated place in the market, the Agility 3. Based on the same controller as the Vertex 3 range we still get the same great features however the other internal components have been tweaked slightly. We will be putting the drive through a selection of tests to find out how it compares to one of the main competitors, the Intel 510 Series and to mix things up a little performance will be tested on AMD's latest chipset the 990FX as Phenom users are often neglected when looking at SSD performance.

Have you ever tried to reformat one of these correctly, by correctly I mean so that that it is perectly aligned so you can use Acronis for backups, at the OCZ forum, they have a tool called the OCZ Toolkit, they tell you to do a " Secure Erase " , that means wipe the whole drive with the Toolkit and rebuild the MBR and partition on another Windows 7 computer with the SSD attached as a secondary drive so you can boot into windows to do this. The way I read it they try to steer you away from Acronis Imaging. On a positive note after you do this " Secure Erase" the SSD will be restored to factory specs.

I may have to do that. The read.write speeds were great on second system but I paritioned on windows install, installed win7 and the read/write speeds suck. I haven't done Duffas tweaks yet. It got late.
