    Default Kingston HyperX 240GB

Long time lurker, first post thanks in advance!! Anyway I just ordered the Kingston HyperX 240GB SSD for my m14x does anyone have experience with the drive in terms of reliability as opposed to other Sandforce drives? I am counting on it being more stable than the OCZ drives.

I thought OCZ SSD is very reliable?
I only own Intel & Kingston. So far so good with the Kingston drives, they didn't give me any problem yet. Didn't have any issue from the get go, plug and play.

Thanks guys, being deployed I can't really spend too much time if it decides to be a PITA, but I figured that Kingston has a good rep and they waited until now to release the drive they probably resolved many of the common issues. BTW is my avatar spinning? I can't seem to get it to animate, but all the other .gif avatars seem to work properly hoping its just my crappy connection...

A sandforce drive is a sandforce drive because of the controller. It will be subject to the exact same bugs as any other brand drive that is sandforce. The only reason it seems like ocz has more problems is because they sell a lot more drives than anyone else. When there is a fix OCZ will be the first brand to have it. I can tell you something else if there were a destructive firmware you could take a kingston drive and flash it to a ocz drive or a patriot drive or a corsair drive or any other brand of sf drive you wanted. I know I turned my torqx 128 into a ocz turbo with a destructive flash. All the drives come from the same vendors and are re branded. JUST LIKE RAM.

The only thing they have in common is the controller.... a lot of companies source out controllers and memory chips for their SSD's but that doesn't mean they all are from the same place, or they are of the same quality.

IMO, SSDs are still to expensive to mess around with the firmware warranty VOIDED.

the bugs are strictly controller related thats why the async, sync, and toggle models ALL have the same freeze bsod bug. KINGSTON is no exception.

for those who MISTAKENLY think Kingston is somehow exempt from the sandforce bug: http://thessdreview.com/Forums/kingston/952-2.htm read it through. They may be close to a fix(they have said this before too) but as of now ALL gen 3 sandforce drives are susceptible to freezing and BSOD. IMO just another of many reasons to get a M4 instead.

    Default Re: Kingston HyperX 240GB

LOL! thanks Bill, I do have a M4 boot drive on my desktop I have been very happy with, but I read an article about the m14x having an issue with it so I thought I would give the Kingston a try. I received the drive a few days ago but haven't received the laptop to test will post results when It comes in!!
