Default going to make the ssd jump

I have been pondering going raid0 unfortunately the 450gb raptor must have been in the floods Im not paying 200 or more for another especially when some reviews AnandTech - Western Digital's Raptors in RAID-0: Are two drives better than one? say no real world difference despite benches

the new samsung 840 pro looks excellent
I also like the magician software

I will wait till december to see that the ssd is reliable and the firmware is a little more mature

    one question
do i have to continually update the firmware

I would not worrty about the firmware. Performance gains when they get updated are usually small.

most firmware is a 2 minute update at most and does no harm to your data like wiping the drive unless you get one of the companies that have yet to figure it out, Samsung is a great SSD the 840s are marginally faster then the 830, the new Plextor M5 are great SSD along with the Kingston SSDs, there is no real need to update firmware everytime a new one comes out. so I wouldn't worry about that, I would invest in at least a 256GB ssd if funds will allow.

I wont have enough for 840 pro 256 but i could get 830
my current setup is only 30gbs

one of my original trepidations on ssd was updating fw
a major reason i liked samsung was the magicians tool versus plextor burn iso reset boot order etc

    thanks for alleviating my neurosis
