OCZ Vertex 2 SSD just died...

Hi,

was just wondering if you guys could help me on picking a new ssd or boot drive for my old system..

I have an old x58 system and wondering what would be the best ssd drive to get as my old ssd just died for some reason..

My System:

CPU: Intel Core i7 970
Motherboard: Asus Rampage III Extreme LGA 1366 x58
RAM: Kingston HyperX 12gb
GPU: 2 x Nvidia Geforce GTX 580 1.5gb
Other HDD: Velociraptor 600gb 10,000 rpm
OS: Windows 8 Pro x64

When did you buy OCZ Vertex 2 ? it might still be under warranty, if it is, you would only have to pay shipping charges to get the drive back to OCZ for replacement.

somewhere in 2010.. i got nothing though.. no receipt or anything.. =( I already placed a ticket hoping it works out so yeah im using the velociraptor for booting for now..

!@^*%#&^%$... okay so I reinstalled my windows 8 to my other HDD and now I for some weird reason cant activate my windows as it says that I had it installed on another computer which im assuming coz I had it installed before on my SSD that just died and couldn't remove it as it just died! LMAO.. do you know what do I do with this?

reinstall it and when it asks you to activate choose activate by phone you will be asked by automated person how many computers is this installed on answer is one, then follow prompts to complete enter numbers and they will verify it and your done.

Yepp.. all done... cheers thanks mate. although since this wont be my permanent boot drive will I have to go through all this again when I get my SSD?

!@^*%#&^%$... okay so I reinstalled my windows 8 to my other HDD and now I for some weird reason cant activate my windows as it says that I had it installed on another computer which im assuming coz I had it installed before on my SSD that just died and couldn't remove it as it just died! LMAO.. do you know what do I do with this?

Yea you can't install it multiple times, new windows 8 "feature" use an activation backup tool, I'll see if I can get a link to one.

Well it's too late now His drive with the activation is dead, although if it's not under warranty I might know of a way to make it live again, if your feeling daring XD

You could throw it in the oven for a couple hours at 250C and that might fix it but it may break it too XD

I'm not joking, Taiwan engineers defeat limits of flash memory Although might be a touch dangerous. XD

Then yea throw it in the oven and see what happens, just might wanna get a fire extinguisher, just to be safe As that link I posted said, it might work

Are you using a OEM copy of windows, or a retail copy ? OEM is limited as to how many systems you install , where as retail lets you get away with a hell of a lot more installs.
Next time tell MS that you have been having HDD problems, so you had to keep reinstalling your OS until you found a drive that worked without any issues.

No,...just clone the Velociraptor drive to the new SSD with Western Digital's copy software, which can be found on their web site.
