Considering a single ssd solution for the gamer, but don't really have a clue what to expect as far as lifespan for one of these. Don't want anything too tricky or finicky...just a reliable performer.

Great drives but only a 3 year warranty. The Samsung 840's are a little faster than the Plextor M5's, but the Plextors have a longer warranty. Good choice either way.

If you want greater life expectancy then the MLC mem of the 840 PRO would be better than the TLC of the 840 but the cost??? maybe just the insurance would work for you especially if you are not a heavy user
Reliability? tops for me on that front would be the 830 and the intel 520 (if you consider that one then the retail version has a longer warranty than the oem). I expect the 840 Pro to follow the capabilities of the 830 but it is new so yet to be proven.
All in all ssd's are a lot better now than they used to be.
