    Default 1 x 1TB or 2 x500GB RAID0?

    Hi guys,

I'm looking at putting a gig of HDD storage into my pc, would you go for 1 1TB veleciraptor, or 2 500GB in a raid array?

Would there be a noticable difference in speed?

Some will say there is some speed increase but that usually relys on the application being ran. Some Games can benifit from raid0 with faster load times and cut sceenes can load better. but other apps will not see any increase at all.

I usually always use the Windows mirroring on my main machine. The advantage to using Windows to do is the setup and recovery is super simple.

Here is a nice little article, RAID on the Cheap: Windows 7 Software RAID vs. inexpensive ?fake RAID? Kevin's Blog.

for media files storage why bother do raid 0 setup?

the down falls are heat, noise, power and lack of files safety, if one drive dies then you are screwed.

I understand that, but RAID is cool

Maybe I'll go with the single drive, it'll save me $70

$70 alone is enough for me NOT to go with Raid. You can buy another 1tb drive with $70. Or go with a 2tb drive.

RAID is cool but really there is no much of a benefit 0 on a desktop.

If you really want to increase performance get 4 drives and do "0+1" striping and mirroring you will see much more improvement in performance.

If you want speed, go for an ssd, if you want reliable data storage do a raid with 2 1tb drives. I think it was raid 1 that makes a duplicate of the data
