Failure of switched powered USB3.0 hubs

I want to be able to turn access to a particular external 2.5" Hard Drive ON and OFF as needed. So, several years ago now, I invested in a 4-port switched USB hub from Ebay - powered too - which worked well for some time, and when that stopped (one socket at a time) I bought another - two this time; and each of those worked for a while, and then stopped. I am now at my 3rd or 4th generation and that phenomenon persists. Currently, when the hub fails, I remove the ext HDD USB lead and then put it back, and the drive is seen again. How long that will last is anybody's guess. With the latest iteration, it took ONE month of use before it failed. I would like a permanent remedy - or short of that, a reasonable explanation for the apparently predictable failures. Can anyone help ? P.S. I must admit, the model that I have been getting from Ebay - whose products are usually good - I have not found in any Google search.

I don't know which model you have been using, but I heard that this model is quite reliable, you can check the users reviews on Amazon and NewEgg (if that is what you looking for).

With my latest acquisition, I discovered that a remedy is to remove the HDD USB lead, and to put is back - THEN the hub is reliable; but one should not have to do that. The model I have used, I have found ONLY on Ebay - There are many varieties on the web generally, but not the Ebay one.

Are you using any other ports from the hub as well? Because that might be the problem.

The other ports have other HDDs connected to them, but only one HDD at a time is switched on. I stress that removing and reinserting the HDD connection fixes the problem long enough for me to be able to work with the HDD. But at next switching on, the HDD is again not seen.

Maybe multiple ports from the hub is causing the issue.
