I don't even think going to get SSD for along time, unless they become mainstream with you price. They cost about $4.00 - $5.00 per Gb at the moment, compare to $0.20 per Gb for standard SATA HDD. I'm glather get Velociraptor than this at the moment.

there really is no benefit to buying SSD's right now they cost more arnt much faster and dont save any power but they are tiny.

I saw an ad in a mag today, the OZC 128GB SSD cost closely $390USD per unit.

This is true, but for now you can get 60GB OCZ SSD's for $80. Running 2-3 of those in RAID 0 is extremely fast.

no doubt about it, SSD must faster HDD but the capacity are still not big enough for me to justify it though. Yup, it is definitely I will switch over this harddrive when they become mainstream.Originally Posted by shattered.likeness

Once I finally get the money for my new rig, I am planning on picking up 3 of the 60GB SSD's in RAID 0, and then a 1TB drive for storage. Might only RAID 2 of them, and keep one just for reviewing. Wonder how fast my startup time will end up being with SSD's in RAID.

I saw a benchmark against Velociraptor, SDD is couple second faster with average of 200mb tranferring. It's about 50mb blazing fast.
I have to find that article and clarifying it though.

in raid they would be even faster than 200mb wouldnt they?

The 200mb quoted from Intel X-25 SSD. I'm assuming it even faster if you Raid0 them. Guess what Intel selling this hard drive for?
$600USD for 80Gb per unit....Ouch!
