    Default external hard drives

SO any cases or anything that would allow someone to take say a couple of older hard drives and turn them into an external hard drive system for storage??

I'm planning on changing to a raptor for my HD since with Vanguard zoning ie chunking would really benefit from a faster hard drive and having a 400 and a 200 gb hard drive it'd just be really nice to put them outside of my system rather then have 3 hard drives stuck in the case with more drain on power, less air flow, etc.

Perhaps a NAS would be a good idea, try doing a search for NAS, it might be exactly what you're after, it also might be a bit overkil too

Im slightly confused...so whats the difference between NAS and an external hard drive other then you can network the NAS into your network and use it with any computer in the network...couldn't you just unplug the external hard drive, plug it into another computer on the network and do the same thing?? I see I can insert a hard drive into it so thats definitely the right area...they do seem to be smaller then buying say a terabyte external hard drive.

Basically what I'm trying to figure out is...can you take a pair of hard drives and turn it into an external hard drive from an internal on your own...buy the case, get a small power supply, etc.

im sure you could do it with the corect components but its hardly worth it and you would still need to plug them into the SATA on a mobo.
